Cagiva WMX Piston
« on: July 14, 2009, 09:57:15 pm »
Hi All,

I would appreciate help in finding a piston for a Cagiva WMX 190cc 1983-84.

Can anyone suggest options if a genuine or aftermarket item isn't available.

This is holding up the project.

thanks in advance,

AJ

They are extinct. I was lucky enough to find one that has been sitting on the shelf since the 80’s after calling about 300 different husky dealers. I have 4 others looking for them as well. Wiseco will make you one but there is a minium order of 10. It might be worth it to call them and see if anyone has put a large order in and they will give you there contact info. I did this on a mugen build and got lucky. Every engine part is extremely rare and hard to find. I have been searching for everything to restore this engine for quite some time. Good luck.

If you don’t find one I might have a used one in good shape. I have two engines I have yet to tear down yet. So maybe one of them is good.

try Robert at Husky Rider, I think he has an ebay shop, I bought a NOS barrel, piston and head form him. or a new guy on the WMX 500 list who reckons he has lots of parts (even reckons he’s got plastic side covers for twin shock 125 and 250. Mike Ward [email protected]

Unfortunately there were no oversize pistons for this model and even the
standard one is no longer available.
Even the piston ring is no longer available.

Sorry..........

Paul,

Thanks for the effort. You have achieved more responses in one day than I have in months of searching.

I have seen many restored bikes from all years displayed on this site. This gave me confidence in finding those rare pieces to finish your project.

I knew the piston would be a problem, but didn't think it would be a project stopper.

regards,

AJ

Do we try

Post up.
Bore size
Overall length
Gudgeon pin size
Compression height(top of pin bore to timing edge)
If piston is domed or flat
Number of rings
If there are ports or cut aways
I'll look in my chart for a suitable replacement (which there will be) I'm imagining the bore around the 64-66mm range which would make a few pistons viable.

Thanks everyone for the leads.

Mike Ward is supplying me with a NOS kit.

The ceramic coating is an interesting solution I haven't heard of.

How does it go with a Nikosil/Chrome bore.

The contact for reproduction rings will be handy to keep it fresh.

Thanks again,
AJ
