yep i know someone who had his PE250 running backwards. he clicked it into gear and it scared the hell out of him as it took of backwards. The reason for this though was because he either had the stator on the wrong way or it was because he had a 79 stator on a 80/81 model and the mounts are 180 deg out and when you use a 77-79 sator on a 80/81 model you need to drill and machine 2 new slots 180 to the standard pre 1980 slots. Now when i think about it thats what it was as i remember him saying that once he put 2 new slots in 180 deg to the std ones as per my suggestion that fixed the problem and it no longer started running bacwards.

never heard of that before but dont doubt it being true when youve got a big bore 2 stroke you dont want it behaving erracticly in any way and the logic is there for that to be quite possible i hope it doesnt happen to mine has any one got a good pe400 pipe and muffler i need one to fire one in the shed to see if it does anything out of the ordinary thanks Michael. :)

have a look on eBay...

Hi Guys,
My guess is leaky gear box seals it happened to me on my PE250 and it was a scary bastard when it wont shut down even with the kill switch.
I was on the start line in Tassie a few years ago and the guy on the 79 cr next to me dumped the cluch and the bike took off backwards sending him over the handle bars ;D, shit we had to have a restart as myself and a couple of others pissed ourselfs laughing ;D ;D im not sure what makes em go backwards but the motor sounds very different then nomal.

Cheers
Fatboy

I'll never forget the day I had a bike diesel it scared the crap out of me! I have a couple of PE 400's and as with all my 2 strokes I think having a well adjusted rear brake and clutch on hand to stall the bitch speaks volumes.

yeh that was me with the pe250t that ran backwards ,i was lucky for the xtra rain and wet grass not to take out the fence behind me ,scared the living daylights out of me,the stator was off the pe250n model and was 180 degrees out ,machine new holes in it and left it in runs really well and reliable ,only way to learn
