Mark have you had a big endo and hit your head lately? The 500 Husky can't be better to ride than a 490 Maico..

Back in the late '90's an Australian Husky dealer had a bunch of brand new in the crate Husky auto's and was selling them off for around the $4,000 mark. They where advertised in the now defunct Sidetrack magazine.  A few cropped up for sale again slightly used.

OK, my cover has been blown , although I have pensioned off the old transit van & upgraded to an old turbo diesel Rodeo. The link above mentions Jody Weisel's 500 Auto , but it was probably a one off water-cooled one , as he says it was built for him by Pro Circuit at the end of the Auto production run.
And no John, I haven't had a head trauma lately . Although the '81 Maico has no equal in Evo class when it comes to turning & an overall handling & power package, I honestly think that on some tracks a Husky 500 Auto has an advantage. If it is real slippery , an auto will find traction when nothing else will . Also if it is a track that needs a lot of gear changes , well an Auto does that for you , leaving one less thing to worry about . They just take a bit of getting used to & need to be set up properly (which is probably why Jody's bike failed to finish a race).

I remember those new old stock Husky's, i think Hans Applegren had them. They were about '87 model 430 auto's i think.

Those new old stock 430 AEs  were '88 models, which was the last year for Husky Autos . The story was that a misplaced shipping container full of them was found in a warehouse in Kansas (I think). Hans Appelgren bought a batch of them, but I am not sure if it was the whole container full & sold them to the Australian market ( but I think one of them ended up in the Husqvarna museum in Sweden). I bought a low hour '88 430AE a few years later, but sold it after changing the bottom end to a 430 WR manual. I plan to put the 430 Auto motor into an '84 WR400 twinshock frame (somebody has already done this before) & maybe even fit a 500 crank &  CR500 cylinder to make it a water-cooled 500 Auto motor, like the one Jody Weisel would have had.
