try and buy a 1973 cr250 honda tank.i have had quotes to fix mine from 500.00 to 1800.00

Jim. Who gave you quotes? Have you tried GMC right here in Oz ?
I will sending my tank to Geoff, just waiting on spare tank Nathan has put aside for me. When I have both of them I will send Geoff the least damaged of the two for repairs. I have seen pictures of repairs he has done. Owners seem pleased and pix look great.

Well I know what it is not off, Its certainly not yz125a or yz125c cause i got them in front of me, i recon it might be off a 250 cause it looks a bit fat, put a magnet on it see if its aluminium
I have a soft spot japanese mxers with aluminium tanks. Two stroke classic Dirt Track...

Not yet holeshot, still looking, our club runs a bucket class, up to 125 4 strokes and 100 cc 2 stroke, l am building up a 100cc yz a to race in this class and that is why l need a yz tank.

there is a guy in the States who professionally restores the 73/74 Honda CR250M and sells them for around $8-$10K pre recession (oops did I say that!!).  He quotes around $1500-$2000 to repair a tank and his works looks really good.  But I sent my tank to Geoff at GMC, didn't pay anywhere near that price or other prices mentioned here (but will not commit Geoff to a price ;D) and was absolutely stoked with the repair job - mine was one of the ones pictured elsewhere on the forum.

Seriously try Geoff first as I think you will be pleasantly surprised depending upon amount of work required?
