Are S & W Shocks rebuildable?
Is there a supplier of parts in Australia?

Depends on model, most i seen are sealed you would have to cut out the end, although i have a set that  pins that unscrew so they mush have done both.

Thanks Freakshow, were they worth rebuilding or should I just get another pair of shocks?

I've got a set being rebuilt at Rad at the moment. They have been cut and rebuilt previously. They get shorter each time apparently.

Hi Shortshifter,
But are they really good!
Or is it just an exercise in saving money.
As we know Rad charge $100.00 per shaft for rechoming. Then there is a seal kit say $50.00. Plus the cost of a shock company for the rebuild say $100.00 per shock. All up the shocks will cost about $450.00 and you still have the old springs which has most likely gone soft or is too soft for us that weigh over 70kgs. New springs cost about a $100.00.

With that said a pair of YSS or Works performance shocks cost about $600.00 new.

So my question is "Are they really good"

unless they are good shocks i would just look out for a decent set of Works shocks ex US s/h be on your door for $200.    Why waste money on brand new shocks ? your just paying for the marketing.  for some reason people add on a liitle bit cuase they a Vintage BIkes, you still cant tell me the price of shocks isnt extorion, especially when i can buy quad or sledge shocks with the same part numbers and valving for half the price.

Basically i reckon OLD shit shocks aint worth the trouble pissing around with to fix or the money.  either Run them as they are or get some rebuildable ones S/H.

What you say about new shocks is a fair point Ji Gantor, but when you are a rider for Team Tight Arse Racing you're looking for every way to save a buck. How good are they?Ive got no idea but I'm hoping they're bloody good.Freaky thats also a good point and I looked at US ebay and found some nice brand new rebuildables for 110$US made there also.Thats where I'm going to shop next time!

See wasp knows i speak the truth.......... its all smokes mirrors and mis direction.

I could give you more than 1 skidoo model or Kwaka quad front shocks that carry 4 1/2 travel and have light valving, good enough for you unless you want to run a world title and fully rebuildable, never need to buy another set over $150 again.

over the last year i acquired works and fox sets with the same part numbers, spring etc as the one listed for Vmx for less than half, well put it this way about $120 on my door, one set was only used a hanful of times, i can still smell the packaging  :D

what you need to line up is the right body so it wont foul the chain, the rest is off the shelf if it need to be changed. Form that point follow up every bike sold with that shock body regardless of what its currently on be it bike , plane or sled.

never fear tight arse racing is still alive and well.

Before I suggest you are dribbeling Freaky , I would like you to put up some proof of your claims .
If anyone can produce adj , rebuildable shocks for that money in a reasanable quality , I would like to see that . Please ,,,,,,,,,

I never used the words adjustable, im simply talking pre 75 manuals, not remote or dial in shit, i'd send you the ebay links but there over the time limit to show up and im not doing your job for you.....   the specific set i reffer to as costing $120 where Fox brand and they used to have a good rep if you have ever heard of that name  :)

When im not busy, im still toying with bringing some sets in, cleaning and revalving if neccassary and then on-selling them.

I would say Works are reasonable quality also as there up there with the best on offer and For the record my last Works blue spring set i bought was 5-6 months back and i bought them off a guy who was selling a DT 250 desert racer in the states ring any bells ?

well i emailed him after it didnt sell and paid him $250 for the works shocks and the new PVl ignition that was on it, he was stoked as he was only asking $6-800 for the bike from memory and he ended up selling it with the old shocks and Stock ign for $500 so he was infront.

its all about raking them out.  im not saying you will be able to buy them off the shelf for that coin but then again no brand does do they  :)

I did get a pair of Works shocks in from the states for my Maico. They were rebuilt, shined and painted and look like new ( see attached image ). They now have the screw adjustment pre load attachment from Works.
