DJs Suzuki footpeg thread is the alltime champ though. I for one have all of the info I'll ever need regarding Suzuki footpegs. In fact it guided me towards the fatty pegs I've bought for all of my bikes!. It's all good, even if we don't understand or agree with barpads or wear boot protectors.
It's better than the disgraceful racism that I've just uncovered on an American off road forum. Apparently America is doomed, the "niggers" are going to run rampant now that Obama's in power. Lock up your daughters!
Jeez I'm glad I live in the lucky country.

some disciplins have there own separate rules book which come out separatley to the national wide manual of motorcycle sport and this rule book is to be used in conjunction with the MOM sport. so even if it doesnt say it in the MOM it will probably say it in the specific rule book for dirt track and reliability trials, enduros or what ever that are brought out by each states commitiee. i know in SA since last year bar pads have been requirements on most or all offroad forms of the sport that are conducted by MSA and that even includes club fun days and gymkana/rally type events, basically anything you need a MA license for. i know one guy who had fat bars with no cross bar so you have to fit those square bar pads, but he had a rollchart holder in the middle of his bars and he still had to fit a pad some how???? how do you do that?

i wouldnt really worry about it too much in other states at the moment because so many machine examiners are so slack and dont check hardly anything. And thats what really pisses me off because you go to all the effort to make your bike comply and then the guy in front of you gets through with a bike thats not up to scratch and doesnt meet the rules.

i looked at the suzuki foot peg thing a while back but couldnt see what the fuss was, there is stuff all pages, unless it was on the old forum?

It think it was on the old forum before we were hijacked by the Turks Leith.
I've got InterAm solid bars on my Maico with a Renthal bolt on cross brace fitted. I'll simply unbolt the cross brace. My Cheney is fitted with period Webco handlebars with a curved crossbar, don't know how I'll work that one out. My Boyd and Stellings has Pro Taper bars with no cross brace, does that mean I have to use those silly head stem covers like the BMX guys use? Like I've said before, the insurance companies and scaredy cat officials are running the show these days.
Next thing, we'll all have to wear fluro orange or green safety vests while we're racing. Don't laugh, It's been proposed in other sports.

I know that MA heirachy monitor this forum. Wouldn't it be refreshining if they could address a couple of the quetions we have such as this barpad stuff or the weird new dirt track changes that appear to be going on behind our backs if the Nepean revamp rumours are true.

Hey Firko, I'm guessing your opposition to the bar pad is 'era related'.
I'm guessing they weren't available when you began riding; they crept in somewhere along the way and you weren't interested in the 'fad'.
I began in 1975 and bar pads were already on bikes; I saw it as a safety measure so I had no issues.

Dunno, just a thought.

Wombat...That's exactly the reason. I ended my serious racing career in 1975. I was walking out the door as you were walking in :D. I'm a stickler for period authenticity (as if that's a new revelation!)  ::) and these things look stupid on pre '75 bikes IMHO. Imagine Black Betty with a bright and shiny bar pad and you'll get my point.
My bigger concern however is that MA is forcing us to fit them to our bikes. I'm so over officials trying to protect us from ourselves with oppressive and badly thought out safety regulations. If facial injuries are their main concern then ban open face helmets. Like I said earlier, I've been riding dirt bikes since 1967 and have been over the bars too many times to count and I've never suffered a cross brace injury. The same goes with all of my old fart riding mates whos combined time on board dirt bikes would total hundreds of years!

I also got pulled up at the Sa State title here in OCt for not having a bar pad on the TM suzuki.   ITs never had one and no one ever asked before but for some reason thats twice in one year by 2 differant scutineers, maybe they went on the same training camp the month before.  I got a Scutinners ticket and as far as im concerned i look for 2 things,

1) - shit wont fall off    and    2) - its components are riding in the right period.

The rest is personal taste.

another one i seen at some events is to only  allow those plastic flexible hand guards,  no loops back to the bar ends nor bark busters ? where's the logic there and it was a trails event and the other was a guy on a side car in a pre 85 MX.  there are some weird interpretations out there.

im just keeping a lenght of plumbers foam lag in the van now just in case.  ;D

I must have missed something. Whay are you angry again Alison? I 'tips me lid' to all of you unpaid officials. I was one myself for years. What however, has this got to do with bar pads and the evil plot by MA to force them upon our bikes? ???

I understand your frustrations now , Allison. Been there , done that . My answer to that is just to move on and ride where there is simple rules and no official bulldust . ( Like CD ) ;)  With every Dollar those rulemaking , goalpost shifting people receive , its confirming to them, that are doing the right thing  ;)

Between the legendary Sports Bar and Klub Kevlars equally legendary Mermaid Bar in Auckland (and the new branch under construction in scenic Kellyville, NSW)http://www.mermaidbar.co.nz/ we've got it all covered eh Walter!  These humourless pricks at head office just don't get it. Thank god for the irreverance of the Klub Kevlar Kompound, Shoeys Team Husky marquee and the YSS Shocks camp at Classic Dirt.

Used to hate cleaning the bar pads after a long saturday night in the pig pen oops puiblic bar, all covered in beer slops. cigarette ash and reeking of smoke, blood ,spew, teeth ,eyeballs and some other even nastier stuff. Actually believed the "VB' insignia on the barpads did mean vomit bag....

I may not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.
