XR 500 R (84) wiring
« on: September 20, 2008, 11:45:52 AM »

For some reason I'm repairing an XR 500 R (84).
The previous owner was breeding mice in the airbox. he then tried to teach them to become auto electricians.

Doe any one have a wiring diagram (wire colours)?  Particularly interested in the connection of the 3 alternator wires near the air box.
Cheers

I have the wiring diagram for this model. Currently racing a modified one in the HEAVEN series. Send me an email at dan@planelec.com.au and I will scan a copy of the diagram and send back to you. I haven't worked out yet how to attach pics to this yet. Cheers.
Depending on whether or not you want lights and blinkers etc as to how many of the wires you need. If you just want the bike to run, then you only need to red/black wire.

Tony T,
I would like to post a couple of pics so if someone could advise me on how to get the photo's attached, that would be great. When I click on the attached picture icon, it simple puts text into the page and I can't copy and paste. Advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hey Are XR 500 R's 6 volt or 12 volt?

XR500 6 volt . although on the 84 XR350 Honda produced an "optional 12 volt" Head and taillight kit instead of the standard 6 volt! why ??? just to piss off a mug like me trying to work out why a fella kept blowing the 6 volt globes.... Cheers Tim
I may not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

Tim cheers
I got bizarre shit going on. The bike has 12 volt bulbs across the entire lot. yet it's only producing a bit over 7 volts.  I'll find some six's and put in and see if that fixes it.
Cheers
