Banned
« on: October 26, 2025, 10:35:27 pm »
On my iPhone, I get a message:

Sorry skypig, you are banned from using this forum!
This ban is not set to expire

No matter what I try - home, copy a link, it ends up with this message.

No such problems on my iPad (hence this post)

Any suggestions?

Sounds like a local software or security glitch. Perhaps a recent update. No such problem with my Windows and Android. There was a few members on Face book who were receiving the same message but no mention of device being used. I would suggest rolling back your last updates for antivirus operating system and browser.

Thanks.
But I don’t have any antivirus, and I think the iPhone updates automatically.

It’s like the forum has banned the ID (IP?) of my phone, but not my account. The way it would if I were deliberately banned for some reason.
Quite weird.

I access the forum from a favourites list on my laptop and got the same message last week.

I don't remember how I remedied the problem; possibly just restarted the laptop.

No problems since.

I still can’t access the forum on my iPhone (Due being “Banned”)
Others have mentioned the same issue.

I think there may be some that don’t have, or use an alternative (I’m on my iPad)

This issue could contribute to the forum dwindling away.

It there anyone that has the know how to “unban” the recently “banned”?

This makes me think of a problem the Yamaha IT forum was having before it closed down. That being, not being able to log on, then some being able to log on and others not being able to. I don't think there was ever a reason given or discovered.

As I mentioned in an earlier comment, I only received the banned message once. The wording ('You've been banned') made me suspicious that the sight had been hacked.

If it helps, I don't allow third party trackers on my laptop and also clear my cookie cache regularly. Maybe that helped my situation...or maybe not.

Hope you get it sorted soon.

Have been perusing the Simple machines forums who own the program which runs this forum and it seems its mainly as I suspected  a local issue  on your device with cookies. tiny chance there is a string of code being picky on the host site but im going with the cookie issue. Either one is not sticking (add site to trusted list) or you already have a cookie from here and its corrupted.  When a device attempts to log in that device is asked to supply credentials as in a cookie or accept a new cookie and it cant do either if there is a corrupted cookie already going by that registration. I hope that makes sense.

The fact this occurs with a few members but not on every device means the membership is good and the log in credentials are good its just the device with the problem. Clean all temp files. Use a good cleaner program if your not techy. Remove all cookies. Make sure you clean the browser history online also. Then reboot. Check your security settings and antivirus and firewall  as they can also cause problems accepting cookies.  Best of luck.

Thanks Pokey

The fact that it has happened to an unknown, but significant number of people. (Who knows how many can no longer access the site to tell us they have been banned?) is odd, and suggestive of a site issue?

It’s on my late model, up to date iPhone that I’m experiencing the issue - I thought they were a little immune to most of these “cookie” type issues. “Resetting” would lose me a lot of stuff, even clearing all the temp files would mean logging in to a heap of sites etc again. (Not the end of the world, but not ideal.)
