AMA Vs MA controlling bodies

yesterday i saw that the Bendigo Motorcycle club in Vic' (a big club and also one that has been around for a long time) has now affiliated with AMA and severed ties with MA. up until now the AMA was only getting smallish clubs across to them.

i no longer race and doubt if i ever will again, i am not up on the politics of all this either.

i know little about the AMA but there seems to be a ground swell moving away from MA due to the high price of fees for meeting and insurance.

so the more clubs that move away will increase the premiums from the underwriters to gain insurance for MA events, my take is this will be a downward spiral and eventually MA will cease to exist and will fold. what will then happen to tracks like broadford etc ?

anyone got anything to add?

MV own Broadford, if MA ceased to operate MV could still continue with income from the circuit. Maybe MAIL (Motorcycling Australia Insurance Limited) could continue to offer motorcycle participation insurance somehow? I guess there will always be a place for competition in business, so MA will still be around.

MA is owned by the SCB's (MV, MNSW etc) it was set up in my opinion to manage MAIL and put some distance between the SCB and the risk. Its a Federation with this organisation - the power and control is with the State Controlling Bodies and their own self interest.

The problem is as I see it is like this - I know that an MA or SCB meeting I have professional people and satisfactory insurance behind the goings on. I have seen the insurance policy from the AMA - suggest you read it if you want to ride AMA or accept the risk.

I also think that another competitor to MA / SCB's is a long over due good thing.
