I think the factory pained some of Vic Eastwoods frames in about 75 / 76. Mainly because he kept wanting them altered ! The very last production run of frames in the early 80's were also painted, red I think, to save money.

Other than that .... yep, it's a criminal act

The engine took a while, but so worth it in the end.

The dry build started before I had the engine finished.



The fork sliders are genuine BSA B50 items as per the original. We honed them out about 8 thou so we could use a pair of 35mm tubes. These were from an old set of Betor forks. Re hard chromed and ground to size. The fork drains were ground off, welded and re-drilled at the rear of the slider as per original. All the external lugs were ground off with the exception of the brake anchor. Then many hours of fettling and polishing. The internals are Betor damper rods and springs. The fork yokes are a billet part made to look like they are from a casting with the "CCM" logo on the top raised.

With the engine in the frame, it was just a case of laser aligning the chain run and carefully measuring for the mounting spacers and rear brackets.



Once I was happy with that, the exhaust was fabricated by Colin Hickie (Hickie Racing) here in the UK. I wanted it done in 18 swg steel and chromed as per the original. It would have been far cheaper to have had it in stainless, but that was just wrong.

Hi Grouty, what type of ignition are you running?

Rosco, I am running the new Interspan Clubman system. I am using the one I bought last year for the original bike. I wouldn't use any other ignition on a CCM

Once I was happy with the dry build, it was time to take it all apart and do it for real.
The frame was made by Mark 10 years ago, so I hoped it had not gone rusty inside. As it turned out the only rust was a very light surface dusting and a bit of mill scale. Most likely always been there.
My favorite rust remover (you would never catch me drinking the crap) .....

I filled the frame to the top with said "rust remover". Just for good measure I gave it a good shake and listened for any hissing. Thankfully nothing. That's the frame pressure tested then 
I drained that, and re-filled with neat petrol. Gave this a good swilling, and repeated.
I mixed a very strong solution of petrol/Castrol R40 and continued to fill and drain.



Each time pouring the mix through my "Mr Funnel" to clear any debris. This whole process went on every evening for a week. Usually until the fumes became too much !



The first few fill and shake rotations went from this .....



To a clear mix.
Not a job I would wish to repeat in a hurry !

Back wheel and swingarm in place ....




Forks and yokes done. The handlebar clamps are just cheap Chinese rubbish for the moment.

Front wheel fitted (not without a bit of head scratching !). All lines up perfectly now.
Air box was trimmed to fit. The clearance between airbox, frame and exhaust is just perfect.




Anita at PES made me a beautiful pair of bar clamps so I could get rid of the Chinese rubbish.




New Dellorto 34mm carb. The fitting is still a bit of a pig, but I have eventually got the knack of getting it in there !



New GENUINE Gunner Gasser throttle and Magura levers.
