Condolences to Tommy and the extended family - sad day, but a life well lived and lived long is something to celebrate.

good photo Doc - those 2 were joined at the hip, we should remember that Don had a life partner in Marie. Don cared for her wonderfully and she him - feel for her right now.

I only heard about Dons passing this afternoon, sad, so very sad. Don was a true gentleman, hero and legend of the sport. My sincere condolences to Tommy and his siblings for their loss and to their mother, we grieve for her husband also. The sport and this world has lost one of it's great personalities and legend of the sport.

I was at the troy bayliss classic cuppla years ago, stiffling hot, sitting next to an old bloke who was looking after his wife. I was amazed at the knowledge of this ole fella and the passion. He told me he and his wife had driven from QLD and was going to drive back that night. I told him that was a crazy idea and he should camp the night somewhere . He told me "ive had been doin this since before you was born "  Turns out his name was Don Newell RIP ole fella
