Mate running a 250 at 25:1 using  Castrol TTS synthetic

I have been running my bikes at 40:1 (not IT)

Just wondering what everybody else is running ratios and plug.  Just think 25:1 with synthetic might cause problems, but i could be wrong

25:1 should not be a problem - but then neither is 40:1 :)

Doesn't help much thought does it?

most synthetics can be run happily at 40:1.

25:1 is fine, just a waste of oil to a degree...smokey as well. the newer oils work better at the higher ratios...

in synthetic two stroke oils, they are using a  light base or a deep base . light bases are used by the most common oils and 30 - 50: 1 is the leanest I would run these oils. motorex fully synthetic is a deep base oil and I have run this quite successfully with no issues at 100:1 in the new kato, the old husky and all the powered tools in the shed. id still be using but the kato shop closed and I love the smell of the castor 727...

if it does help Baz - I have run my YZ on 40:1 Silkolene synthetic for years now and never had an engine issue.

Search the forum as it has been done before with many good ideas and replies for and against many methods. I run mineral oil at about 30 to 1 as I believe it helps transfer heat better in air cooled bikes.
Current bikes. KTM MC 250 77 Husky CR 360 77, Husky 82 420 Auto Bitsa XR 200 project. Dont need a pickle just need to ride my motorcickle

Run my IT"s and YZs at same ratio as 1st post with same oil.
Have for 20 years.

Interestingly 20:1 through 33:1 seems very popular in above thread. What advantage does running 50:1 have?

Makes no difference to jetting once you jet for a ratio you use.

Thicker oils such as Motul 800 are meant for leaner ratios as they have a heavier base.

Run 25:1 TTS no smoke, no plug problems in air cooled bikes

Use TTS at 32:1 as recommended by Yamaha in '05 YZ250.

I used tts at 30:1 in a kdx years ago with no dramas and then had a lc husky and I used silkolene at 50:1...everyone was in shock...ran like a dream, crisp, no pooh at the pipe...I used the silkolene pro at one meet which had octane booster in it. was expensive but dealer was out of std stuff so he gave me a bottle for the same price. it was in the last drum at the final fuel stop and about 10 kms into the last section the bike suddenly took off with a noticeable kick in the pants...was impressive but not on my budget at the time.
your safe as houses at 40:1

 I have a small variety of 2 stroke bikes ;
 All run on:
 BP 98  ( my preferred  choice )  fuel
 All  mixed on Castrol TTS  Synthetic  oil  ; 
 Vintage  (air  & w/cooled ) @  32:1
 Modern  bike @ 40:1 
 Same oil  used   in 1  modern  auto- lube bike as well;
 Chain saw / trimmer / mowers  get the surplus  pre mixed  fuel .
  One brand of 2 stroke  oil for  all   ; one choice of fuel for all
  Tuned right ; All run clean ;

The oil manufacturer recommends the ratio to run their oils at.....

I have run both my 74 HuskY Mag250 and my 79 WR250 at 40:1 using TTS with no problems at all.  That is using 98 fuel
