Can't seem to help myself, just added another project to the shed.  ;)

Cosmetically not too bad but has a bent valve at a minimum.
85' Husky TE510, 83' XR250R, 76' DT400C, 81' XL500S, 85' XL250R, 80' XT250, 82' XT200.
Hmmm, What should I buy next?
In case you were wondering it was an 85' CR250R. Then a 76' DT250 and a 01' XR250 and it didn't stop there

Well done Troy, looks like a nice pick-up.  So will you be bringing the TT250 or IT250 to Yass? (or both)?

At this stage I have no idea as I am still working on the XT225 . Have managed to adapt the XR250 rear shock into it as well as XR forks on IT triples so it is progressing.

Took the young bloke out to the Bandiana Army Museum on the weekend and along with the host of interesting old Military vehicles and tanks on display there is a few bikes as well so here is a few pics.  ;) Unfortunately I only had my old camera on me so some of the pics were a bit blurry but i thought they were still worth sharing.

Must admit I was a bit surprised to see a DR250 there  :o  ;D

OK, it has been a little while since posting in here as I have had a lot going on. After Harrow I turned my attention back to my other project dirt bikes which have been piling up for quite some time. Plus a few others not pictured here  :D

But for various different reasons they haven't been working out how I wanted so I decided to turn my attention to the wife's little 81' SR250 cruiser that has been sitting idle since I purchased it about a year and a half ago. I was told when I got it that it had been rebuilt and then sat for 10 years but after buying it I found it was very low on compression so I parked it in the corner of the shed until I had time to look at it. So last Sunday I went in search of the missing compression and ended up stripping it to a bare frame.

And as for the compression, It has been re bored, has fresh hone marks in the cylinder and a new looking genuine piston but there seems to be a slight problem with the rings  :o

One interesting thing about these little bikes is they are basically the 2 valve XT250 motor with electric start so parts are pretty easy to find and they are quite good to work on so hopefully I should have it up and running pretty soon and in the meantime I have started on polishing and painting all the other bits and pieces.

And while I am at it I thought I might as well post a few pics of my old 83' XJ900R (which I still have) and some pics from the rides it has been on.

Like a lot of older road bikes it handles the dirt quite well even with a pillion

Steavenson Falls in Marysville

On the Stanley Rd near Beechworth

Waiting on the starting grid at the Broadford Bike Bonanza in 2013

And out on Track again in 2016

a bit of maintenance - just think of it as one carby but you have to do it 4 times

Thermal image of the exhausts from one of my tune up sessions - all nice and even

On the way through Falls Creek I think, or maybe Mt Hotham, can't remember for sure.

Engine transplant- she was a bit smokey when I first bought it

Pulled the original motor with the intention of rebuilding it but currently it is still sitting on the shelf as the one pictured came up on ebay at the same time. The original 83' motor is 853cc and only came out for one year then they went to 891cc and a slightly bigger carby. So the engine it has currently is an 891cc from an 85' model with carby's to suit and I also fitted 85' model forks which did away with the earlier anti dive system. Aside from that it has had an XJR1200 tank fitted because the original ones were prone to rusting out.

Hi, just a note about the massive ring gap in the SR/TT cylinder & apologies if i've not read the whole story--SR's are 228cc & TT's are 248 or something but ook identical externaly bar the starter set up. So [guessing] if someone bored their SR to TT bore size but ended up with SR rings--then you'll have a ring gap you could drive a horse & cart through. SR head gasket is smaller of course to fit the smaller bore but if it's been bored bigger it looks like the TT gasket has been used ok.  Talking TT-XT 2valver not the later 4 valve. Ignore me if i'm off the planet. Just scrolled past the pic & saw the big ring gap & thought Hmmm, nothing wears that much.

Thanks for the input and funny you should mention that. On the weekend while cleaning up the Barrel I noticed the 239cc marking and thought that was odd. So I checked the specs and the SR250 Bore x Stroke is 73.5 x 56.5 and the XT250 is 75 x 56.5. You would have to wonder why Yamaha would do that. And yes it appears mine has been bored out to 1st O/S XT250 specs. Unfortunately I ordered the new rings from the SR part numbers which had been superseded by XS650 parts yet when I checks the XS650 specs they matched the bore size I currently have so who knows what I will end up with.  :o
The joys of old bikes.

Sorry, 239cc it is [been 30 years lol] yeah noticed that when i had one in bits at work & wondered what their reasoning was for 'that' as hardly makes economical sense i'd think. Damn nice little road bike though & preferred them to the GN250 & we sold both at the time. One of my projects i gave up on & sold on [after a MX head injury confused my thinking for a bit] was an SR motor i had mounted in a twin cam TT250 frame. Wish i'd held on to it now [as we say about lots of bike from years gone by].

Plan is to put it on Club rego for the missus to ride but I must admit that I really like the styling of it and am looking forward to getting it up and running so I can take it for a spin.
Here is some pics of how it looked before I stripped it down and as you can see it is complete and some of the hard work was already done by way of the paintwork and seat cover but when you looked closely there was quite a bit of rusted stuff and and lots of mechanical and electrical issues, but I bought it as project and I think once all the hard work is done it will be a top looking little bike and should go a bit better than the original as aside from the extra CC's it is also running the XT pumper Carb instead of the original CV.

Took the ol'900 for a spin today out via Lake Hume today and it is good to see the water level up so high thanks to the recent rains. Should make for a good summer of watersports. Word is it might even spill this year.  :D
