I feel the need, the need for new reeds
« on: November 19, 2015, 08:06:28 pm »
I'm having trouble finding Boyesen reeds for my Suzuki GT250X7, I have one set out and they measure 44mm long x 35mm wide with mount holes 18mm centre to centre. I know Suzuki like to common up their parts sometimes but I can't even find a bloody part number for them to cross reference, I "think" they may be the same size as the early RM80's but until someone measures theirs and tells me I'm stumped.

Used to be able to buy small sheets of reed material and cut your own, very time consuming.

I have a considerable stock.
I started to look for you when you through up this thread

But got distracted, crashed out and forgot until now.

I will have a look if you put standard ones with dimensions up :)

Just buy some carbon sheet in .45mm thickness and cut it out with a pair of scissors, there are two brands that market it 'Malossi' & 'Polini'.  Try GPS Imports in Collingwood (Vic).

Reed valve assembly 13150-11310
Reed gasket  13156-11300

They don't come up as fitting any other models and the reed itself is not listed separately

Are you certain that 18mm mounting is center to center?

This is the link to the GPS Imports website for reeds & reed material, they list .40mm which would still work ok.

They used a pic of me on my GSXR1000 racebike at the top of the page; I haven't ridden for them for about 4 years, go figure!

Unfortunately the Aussie Polini sheet is hideously expensive, I got some from a scooter shop for about $30. The Suzuki power reed doesn't really like carbon petal material though(they break in no time), besides the stainless , the twin petal boyensen seem to be the only option for replacement/improvement

What do you think the reason is that the Suz power reed doesn't like carbon?  It doesn't open any further, or more often than I normal reed valve assembly I would have thought; interesting.

I wish I knew why John the only thing I come up with was the dimensions of the petal itself. Tried all manner of combinations on a RM400 and a 125. The 400 petals lasted maybe 10min, 125 just ran flat.
