This is my '89 ATK605 . It needs a tidy up as well & I would like to upgrade to the later style plastics as shown on the '90 model ( although it looks like '93 model plastics on that bike ) that Firko posted . The countershaft mounted rear brake disc has been removed & replaced by a conventional rear wheel disc setup , by the previous owner .
I was reading a Husaberg brochure recently , where it was claimed that they were the first to introduce an electric start off road / competition bike in '94 . However , they may have their facts wrong as my ATK is an '89 model with a factory fitted electric start .

Spot on with thr plastic transplant on the '90 ATK, Husky Evo. How's the parts situation for these big Rotax's mate? I'm toying with the idea of buying an ATK. Is it a good ride? I've ridden a 406 2 stroker and loved it except for it being a tad tall. What forks and shock has your's got?  I think the 406 I rode had Simons upside down forks, would they be standard? I've been looking for a vinduro and trailbike to replace the KTM450 and want something quirky and exotic but also want something with an electric button due to being spoiled by the KTM and having a dunger left ankle and right knee making it hard to kick the big 4 strokers. The ATK or a CCM604 fit the bill.

This is the model ATK that appeals to me, it's an '85 560 that'd fit right in to the Vinduro year cutoff. This particular bike is for sale at the moment for 3k. 2 stroke ATKs are half that which constitutes a real bargain considering how trick these babies are. You can buy a 2000 250 for $1500 and they've got Paoli forks, Brembo brakes and other good gear.

Below: Here's an example of how cheap these ATKs are,

1999 ATK 260LQ

New Piston (couple of hours)
great condition

Will ship  ATK in US

1,500.00

I have not needed to buy too many parts for my bike yet Firko, as it came with a good range of spares when I bought it & I haven't put a lot of hours on it . I did buy some gaskets & o-rings from Bert Flood a while back , but I think for cosmetic parts I might have to buy from the U.S . Mine has WP 4054 USD forks & WP rear shock & is a very plush ride , although it feels a bit heavy when compared to my Husaberg. The motor is a bit of a monster though as a previous owner had some head work done by Ron Wood & fitted a big cam . He also went overboard & fitted a 45mm Mikuni flatslide pumper carb , which I think is way too big & sacrifices bottom end power for the sake of eye watering top-end . I will be looking to tame it down in the future & fit a smaller carb . I do have an issue with the A-Trak chain tensioner  system , as it only allows 2 or 3 teeth on the front sprocket to drive the chain . Even with a new chain & the biggest front sprocket I can fit , it still seems to jump a tooth occasionally under hard acceleration on rough ground . I may have to make up a new case saver plate that fits as close as possible to the chain .
Unfortunately if you are after an electric start model , then the '89 is the first one that this came out on (I think). I have not seen an ATK with Simons forks , so the one you rode maybe had aftermarket ones fitted . I have always liked the ATK406 because of its simplicity with the aircooled 2 stroke Rotax motor & the linkless single shock rear end . Also on this model ,I think that the airfilter is a pod style right up behind the front numberplate / headlight . There is lots of innovative technology on these bikes .

Firko,
Keep your cotton pickin' mits off that 604 in the U.S., I've been trying to get him down in price for the last 12 months, don't go undoing all my hard work ;) ;)

No you go for it Evo, I'm still fishing around and I've spent too much money lately anyway. I'm going to watch the market for a little while and see which way the price trends go. I've always liked ATK technology and may settle for a 250 or 406 yet.

I picked up a 97 ATK 250 of ebay Australia for $1,700. I was the only bidder.  The 96 605 are a good model if you have short legs. They have the crossover frame and a real low seat height.
Currently have 9 Rotax powered bikes living with me.

Is that an 95 model ccm? I can remember I think seeing a couple of these at a Cairns dealer around 97. Story going a swedish? bloke had brought in 3 and kept one for mx, converted one to road use and sold the other. Where did you acquire the poster? Very intersted in this model

I think that the one I posted is a bit earlier than '95 . From memory it is about an '89 model . The image came from the MXTRAX.UK vintage forum a fair while ago & the webmaster of that forum gets pretty cranky if anyone posts pictures of a bike that is not a pre ' 90 model (sort of a bit like a pommy Firko  :D ). I have another image that I will try & post , which I think is of a CCM works bike with a Rotax motor from around '85 or '86 that was ridden by a guy called Greg Hanson .
I must have some sort of addiction , because I am seriously tempted to buy the '92 CCM on Bikepoint that was posted by Paul . It is only about 4 hours up the road from me & seems to be a good price . I always wanted to own a CCM & this one probably wouldn't have the reliability issues of the earlier ones . The purists would probably say its not a proper CCM without a British motor .

Then again , I could be talking out of my arse & have those year models all wrong . I went back & found the UK thread on the Rotax powered CCMs .
