I can understand your point but it can be frustrating to me when I cant find out the info I need. I wish there was a book on this kind of stuff. I always give out free tips/advice/info etc to customers/people inquiring who need help and they are always very appreciative but I think I may be being too kind and nice. So theres clearly some ‘special’ process involved to re-gas with out fitting a Schrader/needle valve which doesn’t really make it possible for servicing my self as I will probably be getting a nitrogen set up soon. What I think I will do is get 2 sets and send one set to RAD and they can do that set which will be rebuilt but not serviceable as they weld the cap back on and I will only use that set occasionally and for show use. I will then do the second set with a re-moveable end cap so I can service them and I think I will also then just put a Schrader or needle valve in the end so at least I can regularly use those shocks and service them my self it’s a bit like how you don’t go out riding with your best set of NOS plastics.
They quoted $250 inc chroming which is cheap and almost seems too cheap to me.

You may have gone about it the wrong way. Did you explain that you would supply the parts ( removable cap ) so they could be rebuilt the way you wanted them and ask for extra grooves.   Yes it does sound cheap for what they do , ask him to linish off the welds if you want it to look smick before he gases em up .

Maybe when I retire , I could write a book  about Suspension and what goes with it . Would you buy it Leith , or just borrow it ?

Hey Walter that would be a good bouncy read that should click, mind you maybe I would have to suspend my wondering imagination.... Don't want to get sprung with it under the bed though..... How much would I have to fork out for it ?? or would the price that springs to your mind be too much of a shock........... ;)    Cheers Tim  (Sorry I write my own lines ::))

I may not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

Can anyone identify this shock

62103-40900 my info tells me PE 250/400 however it is not in the parts books. It is what the original shocks were superceeded to in later life. I don’t know if it’s a remote reservoir type. Maybe it’s a later DR 400/500 shock that were sold for PE’s when the others ran out or maybe it’s for an 82 PE 250/400? My parts info doesn’t cover those 82 PE’s yet but will soon.

Also this one 62100-41311 is for a 77 RM 125. if any one has the original shocks can they tell me if they have a re-moveable cap the same as the 78 C/C2 RM shock? If it does then I will get that shock which has been offered to me and then I will have a pair of caps.

I did mention to RAD that I wanted to have it so the shocks were re-builable with re-moveable caps and with an updated seal block etc but from what I gathered he only does it his way only. He said a place in melbourne may do it but then he said they just send it to him anyway. I think its kind of good that they can rebuild them so there is no valve and weld them up as I can at least get a pair done to look exactly like original now if I get the welds linished off as oldfart suggests. I just won’t be able to service them my self though so that’s why I will get another set and get those made to be serviceable so that I can change the oil and re-gas my self with out having to resort to a welder and hacksaw every time and perfect looks wont be critical on those so I will fit a air valve to re-gas and then they can be used more regularly. I’ve got the yellow stickers to go back onto the shocks so really my only headache now will be get some red foam bump stops and 23mm OD vucanised/bonded rubber bushings.
But before I take this any further I want to get some more PE shocks though.

Tim , if we put your way of words and my experiences down into a book , it will be a great read . ( including this thread) .
And then we shall get Paul to edit it.  :D

I worked it out now. The 40900 is the 400 shock. 250's had 40600 and then when they ran out they were replaced with the 400 shocks (40900) which had different spring rate and maybe different damping
