I remember seeing the SU-27 at Avalon a few years ago. Super impressive. Big aircraft too. One of the first fighters that had a 1:1 power ratio. That means it can accelerate vertically. I've had comments from ex-servicemen that Aus would have been better off buying these over the Hornets as it would be a better all mission capable aircraft suiting the varied roles our conditions require - a suitable replacement for the F1-11 (it seems that the US has heaps of spares and low hour mothballed airframes available so 'upgrading' to a newer design due to airframe age and maintenance was a bit of a furphy).

it reminds me of the old adage" the US spent 2.5 million making a biro that would write in space....the Russians used a pencil....)"

the su is an awesome plane but pretty simple apparently

What a Show, and I even found some old Bikes there,in amongst the Planes. The old Beemers, where the Re-enactors were making a lot of noise, were unbelievable,I haven't ever seen photos of those models, let alone the real thing! There was some old pommie iron and an Indian, near the F22 Raptors.

It was impossible to see it all in 2 days, for me the highlights were getting up close and personal with the 54 year old B52,all the WW1 Planes, and Otto the freestyle helicopter doing stuff a helicopter just shouldn't do.

As for you Mexicans, you are hiding some gems,we stayed at Pt Lonsdale and did a bit of the Great Ocean Road, and the Otways on the way home, looks like there would be some great riding on and off road. And by the way, make sure you never let anyone build anything near Bells Beach,it is just they way a beach should be,wild, windswept, and challenging!
If you are not living on the Edge, you are taking up to much Space!!

That plane is amazing. I imagined myself being taken for a fang by one of those pilots. Phew, what a ride that would be. How the hell they know where they are in the sky is beyond me.

what a shame, those ryans are a loverly plane...I went for a spin in a p51 mustang years ago and the pilot was an ex "roulettes" jockey. he put me to the test that's for sure... the stall turn and vertical dive to the sea was sensational! 50 to 400 knots in a blink!

I'm guessing the landing wouldn't be classed as a great one then......
