Yz465/490 clutch cover.
« on: February 19, 2015, 07:11:40 pm »
It kicked back hard and put a large crack in the cover..... :-X......I believe that this is a common cover between quite a few models....any help would be appreciated.

Hi, not much help with the cover sorry but first thing i'd be doing is pulling the mag flywheel off & [i think] you'll find a sheared off key. If it 'is' then use a holding tool to hold it solidly against the footrest [or something] & swing on the nut with a half inch breaker bar. Maybe overdoing it but--Bought my "83K 490 off ebay & came "Pre Sheared" un-beknown to me damn it, & first kick, you guessed it, she kicked back 'so hard' it took a tooth of the idler gear & bent a tooth on the kick start gear--clutch small gear survived luckily. First thing i did was pull the flywheel & wished i'd done it before trying to start it. guy said [after the event lol] he'd just changed the stator & run it before crating up. Sorry--long story getting longer--bottom line is please be careful & learn from 'my' mistakes. Cheers.

Thanks for the response,....it was actually kicking back coz the flywheel had rubbed through the stator wires and  causing intermittent spark.......key was fine.

Somebody must have one of these....3r4 prefix....yz/it. 250/465/490 ....cash waiting.

I've got an entire YZ465 motor but don't really want to part it out. There is a clutch cover of a 1980 IT250 on ebay (global shopper) this is the search address http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/380407437680?nav=SEARCH it looks like the same as the H models.

G'day Pom

Buggered if I know, ebay is a mysterious place where sometimes you find it, sometimes you don't. I know I've stumbled across random parts and gone back looking for them only moments later and can't seem to find them again.
I searched "ebay global" which will generally bring up results from anyone who will ship to Oz, when you search it will sometimes bring up a category called "more items from international sellers" I clicked on that and found the part. I always try different names and spelling and sooner or later you can nearly find the part you need somewhere in the world. I'm just finishing a IT465 build, it's the 7th bike I've done and ebay has always been a handy source of hard to find parts.
