The bike was bought as a rusty roller from billjackjane about a year ago, with the specific intention of turning into a "YZ175" - I love my YZ125D, and figured that this would be a way to build a 250-class bike that handled about the same, while having a bit more grunt against the 250s.
Cases are DT125D, and the top end is IT175D, ignition is DT175, while the rest of the engine/gearbox is YZ125D.
I used the external rotor DT ignition simply because I had it... I'm on the look-out for an internal rotor ignition from a YZ125X~E.
Forks and triple clamps are YZ250D, while the shock is a modified YZ125D item (more length, but with the travel restricted back to 9"). I think it needs a stiffer rear spring for my fat arse, but it might just need additional pre-load (remember that extra length).
It's borrowing the pipe from my 125D, until I repair the E pipe I've got for it. Longer term, Uncle Lozza will make me an Institute Special Pipe for it, but that can wait until I've sorted out the gearbox and have a less rattly top end on it!
I owe Scott W (Mr VMXPlastics) a huge thank-you for helping me out with parts - including one of his new rear guards which looks far better than the bent POS that's in the photos.
I also owe Marty from Wrights Motorcycles a huge thank you for helping me out with shock regassing, oils and all of the generic stuff like levers and kill-switch.
I reckon I've got a bit over $550 tied up in it: $150ish for the bike, a hundred or so on paints and oils, $50 on the 250 front end, $40 for the late model footpegs, and the rest with Messers Wilson and Wright.
And to be fair, I've 'borrowed' the bars and chain from my DT125 race bike, so $700 will be a more realistic figure once those parts are replaced.
