Head down arse up all day, getting ready for next year. Just so happened picked a couple of Maicos up
from storage today,,,,a 81 GS250 and a 85 GS250

How's that for chance,,,,,happy days,,,great days indeed 8)
This particular second one was campained in the four day, supplied and sponsored by Ross King Maico.

Geezus MickyD, are you forging compliance plates now?.....that looks a bit "fresh" mate.....are you gonna put them up for sale?....Teddy's mate Roger Rogerson will be able to help you out......good luck with the venture. I might have to bring the PE250B down and round up Teddy on his it. ;D

Narrrrh, I don't think you can, they are raised characters, sort of like English braille, stamped from behind with special special unavailable to the public type shit.

As fresh as the day it was fitted in 1985, see the low volume statement on it. And you would have to know the one off secret government allocated codes. Good luck if you guessed it wrong ::)
This bike needs a lot of attention, but none the less it is one very special machine.
 One of only a hundred factory specials.
This one has its own interesting and unique intended purpose and history :)

Actually this bike still has the last rego label fitted to it.
Its rego was continuously maintained until the engine shit itself in 2007.
The usual story. It shit itself because it had just been miss serviced by an uneducated self proclaimed guru.
Some mothers do have em.

 If it was used in the 4 Day was it owned by Mitch Heffernan. He was a heavy campaigner with Maico. Pretty sure he test rode a few Maico's for T&T magazine and Revs at the time.
Let's face it some dirt bikes were never meant to be ridden.

Yeap you got it right Brooksie.
It was reportedly originally intended for GB, but Bombardier had him tied and were being a bunch of pricks.

Just transported it to the workshop today, not sure when I will be back there with several bikes ahead of it.
Just bought a heap of stuff of ebay for it in the past two hours.

I will probably be scorned and frowned upon,,,,, ::)  but,,
I don't like the silver frames they changed to,,,,I prefer to do it like the earlier red frames to match the plastics
Repainting frame will lose the history and providence of the four day number engraving history etc,,,
but its not for selling,,,,, its a life-fer until forced from my possession.

OK, so I had a good conversation with Dennis last night.

I'm happy to say that I was wrong WRT his motives.

To hugely simplify it, he explained that the main motivation is to supply events that are even more casual/less competitive than 'normal' Vinduros.
I have issues with some of the ways they're trying to achieve that goal, but they also have some very good ideas (including one that I reckon will nail the goal, all by itself).

We agreed to disagree on a whole bunch of stuff, but the main thing that pissed me off isn't a significant factor.

So... While I would dearly love to see the entire old-dirt-bike world have consistent, inclusive eligibility, I think that vTr will have a worthwhile place in that world.

Yeah I was disappointed that my newish 89 KDX200 is welcome in Heaven but out in this new vTr thing,,,But

I will quite smilingly and simply go with the flow, Dennis and Holmesy bust their asses to always give us vintage trail riders a great event.
I hope all their out of pocket expenses are well and truly covered, they dam well should be.
The time they donate to us, is phenomenal.
They barely ride, if at all. Instead they work their guts out to make sure all is well for us.
They have spoilt us rotten.

I always feel guilty at the amount of work they and some others do for the hoard.
I am working hard now on being more organised for next year, so I can get there a day early and possible help out.
Well that's the plan Stan.

What they have already given us is way beyond any dream that I thought would ever happen 8)
