Suzuki RV125 73??
« on: May 19, 2014, 12:06:40 pm »
Gday all,

My newest project a Suzuki RV125 that i will rebuild for my wife for her to learn ride on the streets and take the surfboards to the beach. :)

I need some help with ID of the RV...Im guessing it is a 73 or possibly 74 model

Frame No: -  RV125-30636
Eng No: - RV125-26930

It is nearly complete, obviously needs a coil,,(looks like they tried a Ford part) and i need the RH plastic frame cover, magneto cover and sprocket cover.

If anyone has more info or parts for the RV please let me know,,,,,it would be appreciated

Original front and rear Qld number plate, have tried PPSR web site to identify but no luck there, they say it does not exist

Thanks

 The Tracker
Very many mechanicals and electrical in common with the TS125
No Rotary Valve as was the 75 and 90 cc versions
yellow was 1972 version
green 1973
red 1974
blue 78
then they changed a bit and made the Van van

Yours is a 1972 by the paint and the head design
Year should be on the label on the head stock

The chart below says it could be a 74 L model but the bike doesn't look like  a 72

Pokey,

I have been looking at Alpha Sports for parts listing and they do not list a 72 RV125,,,,,only RV90???

That is why i was thinking it was 73

Also the label on the head stock says:

Suzuki
Model RV125
Capacity 123cc
Weight 111Kg   (Fat Boy)
No 30648
No 30636
Made Suzuki Motor Company

I was guessing the 3 was for 73???

Thanks Cyclegod for the ebay listings

Cheers
Tim

Ive done a quick run around on the net and it does show some yellow 74 models so I would go with that being that it also matches up with the engine and frame numbers for 74.

I had a 74 rv90 many years ago as a fishing bike, went well on the hard sand and on the flooded sand flats. bit heavy (gutless) for the soft stuff even with the tyres dropped.

I still have one tucked in the back of my shed in original condition and have a spare part manual if you need one.

The biggest problem with the RV125 is getting tires. I looked long and hard for tires for mine back about 10 years ago and was advised that there was someone in the US who had a run of tires made, but they would cost around $600 each at the exchange rate as it was then. Obviously the exchange rate is now a lot better, but they would probably still be expensive if you can find them.

From observations of both photos, eng/frame and part numbers..'73 had a colour matched headlight shell, '74 was chrome and '75 was black :P Nice pick up Tim ;)

Pokey, I'd reckon a 50+ tooth rear sprocket would give it a little more drive :P

Try looking for scooter tyres Toolboy. they have small rims and ive seen some pretty wide rubber on a few of the better performing modern ones. Im almost sure they use 12 and 14 inch rims

Not sure if any amount of teeth could have helped my old 90 doc. I was doing a good impersonation of a Kelvinator then. :D

Don't start doing anything on that bike until you find tyres,
Good luck with that,
Even if they are near new they will start splitting when correctly inflated,

Gday Geoff,

Yeah did consider but getting bike from mid west NSW to Sunny Coast adds $$$

Im still watching though

I need a sprocket cover if anyone can help.

I started the resto the other day, washed clean and decided to try and get bike running before I totally dismantled.

Found a mouse nest in the air cleaner and a carby full of oil dirt and old fuel.

There is no spark I made a pulley to remove flywheel and replaced points, and condenser now waiting for new coil to arrive.
