Alloy Tank ID (89 KX125)

Picked this up last weekend.
Came on an 89 KX125 parts bike, so no history is known. I got the frame and motor from the same bike - they're just run-of-the-mill 89 KX125 bits (no "SR125" frame number, or Titanium bits, sadly...).





Cap is Acerbis, tap is original Kawasaki






Both sides, the top, the shroud mount and the RHS front are all one piece, suggesting its not a one-off backyard build?!
It's not obviously different in size to the stock plastic tank, although the lowest point (where the tap mounts) is about 40mm deeper than the stock one.

Anyone got any idea where it came from?

Oh yeah - the tank, a good motor in pieces, a good frame, a swingarm and a buggered rear wheel = $200.


SON, what was the point of them? Just a way to demonstrate that you had too much money? Or were they bigger or something?
