Riders Against Depression
« on: March 12, 2014, 11:43:12 am »
I was inspired by Stephen Relf (Relfi) to start this thread, and before going further I ask that you read the following topics:-
GENERAL DISCUSSION " Not VMX but of interest (men's depression)"
          VINDURO            "Aussie 4 Day Starters"
                                    "2014 Masters Games"
After much discussion with Stephen and others I have set in motion a project to raise money and awareness of this major problem in our society. The initial focus is on Stephen Relf, now joined by Nathan Senior, to use their entry into the 4 Day as a platform to achieve this through sponsorship and fundraising. Secondly, the PanPacifi Masters Vinduro/Enduro will be a signature event as a fundraiser for this cause.
Support can be given on an individual basis, or as a club based project. Already Heaven and the Gold Coast Motorcycle Enthusiasts Club have indicated interest.
This is all above board and official. We are registered with Beyond Blue as an approved fund raiser, have set up an account with Everyday Hero, and have approval  from the Masters organisers.
Rather than write a book here, if you read the topics mentioned above and check out the Beyond Blue and Everyday Hero sites it should be clear. Any queries can be directed to [email protected]
 www.beyondblue.org.au/    www.everydayhero.com.au/riders-against-depression
Updates as we go along.

Bucket collections at the Gloucester Grass Track (Heaven), Queensland Classic/Post Classic MX Championship (Brisbane MCC),
and Classic Dirt 10 (VMX Magazine/Sunshine MCC) a little over $460 has been raised. The early generous donations by a few individuals makes a total of just over $1000.
Personally I think this is a very poor responce to a campaign supporting the very many family, friends and aquaintences most of us know of suffering from this condition.
I know times are tight, but if we can afford to indulge in this great sport of ours surely we can tip in a little to help our mates.
A $100 donation equates to 5 packs of cigarettes, a cheap meal out for 4, a tank of fuel etc etc

Well it"s the end of the financial year so how about a liitle donation, go and bend your bosses arm and tell him what a good bloke he is, it all helps.

Thanks for something positive and constructive. Go for it.
Pehaps you could repeat this on the Evo thread as I doubt the cyber heroes even look at this one.

I see that the Aust 4 day Enduro is only a month away. Just checked the fund raising site and it needs a healthy kick of donations to meet the nominated  riders target of $15 K.

At the moment there's only $1400 in there, a very poor response in my books, come on support your mates.

What a sad, sad day it is & such a loss to everyone of such a gifted person. Hard to imagine the constant pressure & internal stresses on his day to day life that he would force him take his own life.  Sadly missed & reinforces the importance of mens depression

Not sure I will be there yet.  I'm running out of bikes, they keep breaking faster than I can fix them  :o :o
Looking for YZ250C parts NOS if possible

More farmer suicides in Qld due to drought, hard hit families in the fires, time to dig deep depression is a major issue. We riders are very fortunate and should do whatever we can

With the bushfire aftermath, still drought in some areas and of course the ongoing Corona Virus creating much financial hardship it is timely to resurrect "Riders Against Depression" We raised just over $11.000.00 last time and aim for $50,000.00 this time. As soon as it's set up we'll advise how to fundraise. Any clubs or organisers who can come on board please contact [email protected]
