Also Firko, I think from memory you responded to my post about the Mk1 Ford Escort that some of my friends and former students are donating their time to restore for me.  Well we have decided to dedicate the car to the Parkinsons Disease cause, and are doing it up as a tarmac rally car for entry into a few targa events.  Plan is to enter it under a Parkinsons themed "brand" (logo, website etc underway), and link it to established PD charity organisations.  Trajectory is to have it in display state at least by March, so will see if we can bring it along to HBBB. 

The project is getting some good support, and we already have a sierra 5 speed gearbox, Minilite wheels, Dellorto carbs, sandblasting, paint and body repairs donated.  I'm gathering photos to post an update on here.

That's brilliant. I know it's an old cliché but if there's any way I can contribute to such a good cause drop me a PM. I reckon the little Escort is the perfect choice for Targa style events. With their nippy performance and good (for the era) handling it'd be more fun than an hour jelly wrestling with Jennifer Hawkins. I've long had the ambition to convert my TWR Jag over to Targa style trim but my preoccupation with old dirt bikes and a slight lack of folding matter have put that on the back burner. I'm a bit hesitant to do the big camber front end and roll cage work on what is still essentially my weekend plaything.......one day, who knows.  Sorry for the thread deviation.....oh, wait a minute I started the thread.

Nice one Firko, love the minilites.  I'd expect such period-correctness from a VMX aficionado!  I'm not so sure if I'll ever get to experience the full comparison you mention, but I'll certainly tell you what it is like the drive the Escort

And thanks for the offer of help, I'll certainly contact you about that.  It would be great if we could put up some sort of display at some of the upcoming 2014 events such as HBBB, Classic Dirt or the like, so any contacts or advice on that front would be great.  Happy to travel out of Vic too.
 
Cheers Richo, will chase you up when I'm over there.  I have contacts at each of the engineering unis (ECU, Curtin, UWA), plus also have a good friend tied up pretty heavily with Wanneroo Raceway, so should be near you at some time in my travels.  Perth ain't too big anyway.

 I have been hearing about symptons from PD, MS, and MND all being somehow connected/similar.
    And of one long term sufferer of MS suddenly being re-diagnosed by a different Doctor who sent  tests to America for Lyme disease which came back positive with subsequent treatment for that  being effective..
  My brother passed away 1yr ago with PD and I having  seen the devestation of MS and MND I think all posibilities should be investigated. I have been told that OZ medicos say Lyme disease does not exist in this country but the facts are out there.
 
 Some of these things are just too distressing to witness.

Thanks Richo, no, it's a GM turbo 400 auto with a B&M shift kit. They didn't make very many manuals, the original Moss 4 speed fitted to the very first '75 model didn't handle the torque of the V12 very well so they dropped the option and a manual was never again offered with the V12, even with the TWR. I'm planning on fitting a 5 speed Toyota Supra or Tremec 6 speed box when the auto finally shits itself.

What a great idea re manual box.So they fitted the non synchro moss bikes like on the series 1 E types ...I didn't know that I have had lots of Jags,! XJS,5 E types all series ones,lots of MK 2s and currently a MK X project which I am going to sell as Ive gone Aussie muscle car mad,Cv8 Monaro,VZ ss ute blah blah.......wouldn't mind a manualised XJS though!
