Works replica, such a thing?

Had a mate call me and is looking at buying a " works replica 87 KX125".which allegedly came from the states.
 My question is there such a bike or is it just a kx125 with your usual back yard upsell and a sticker kit?

There is a such a bike, but i thought it was 86 and was a Euro/Asia/Oceania model that didd'nt go to USA. Some would say it was nothing more than BNG, but it certainly came from Kwakasaki and it was denoted by the wording "Works Replica" under the KAWASAKI logo, see link below.

Ah ok ,will check the numbers. Wouldn't be the first time someone sold a bike thinking it was the wrong model. Now to see if its a poo cart or not. Thanks guys

Pretty sure all KX125s from 85 till 87 were all claimed to be works replicas by the company.
They even had the works replica sticker on the side panels somewhere.

It's either a works bike or not a works bike. Works replica = BS
It could be a production bike with some works parts fitted which is cool.

Sounds like a stock '86 KX125 to me. As has been stated the "works replica" was part of the graphics.

Is the KX250A4 a works repliuca of the SR250 1977? Looks like to me. Certainly the closest thing i will own to a works bike for the money.

Yep.

The 85 KX125 I've just dragged home has a factory "Works Replica" sticker on the radiator shroud. Haven't stopped and worked out if its just an 86 sticker or is correct for the 85.

Both the 85 & 86 KXes were very good bikes compared to their competition. By 87 the CR had established a clear lead, but the KX was still miles ahead of the YZ & RM.

A heap of mx models have the works replica shroud sticker from new. It's their gimmick. My '86 500 is the same.

very true. The 86 500 has high and low speed rear shock, power valve, rear disc and other cool items.

Somewhere in the Tim's sheds filing system (aka The black holes) I have some genuine "  unreal Factory Works crap" graphic stickers. Yep genuine for sure , I made them. 
Of course they feature a flying pig motif....
