Too cool. That'd make a great pre 60 bike. It's more like a '59 model than a '49.
'68 Yamaha DT1 enduro, '69 Yamaha 'DT1 from Hell' '69 DT1'Dunger from Hell, '69 Cheney Yamaha 360, 70 Maico 350 (2 off), '68 Hindall Ducati 250, Hindall RT2MX, Hindall YZ250a , Cycle Factory RT2MX flat tracker, Yamaha 1T250J, Maico 250 trials, '71, Boyd and Stellings TM400, Shell OW72,750 Yamaha

It looks to be from the middle 50s after the manual advance and retard which the 1952 motors had and having the jampots puts it prior to the 57 forked girling units.
The frame and engine number will reveal all.
Still a great starting point for the pre 60 class, just have a look at Nick Macksfields Matchless, number 80 on the VMXWA site to see what can be done with these old models!

close mate,f/ends & wheels 59ish,round bottom caps, brake lever tucked in behind forkleg, frames very early jampot, box is B52,dosen't match 49 crankcase number (iron head?),neither does the SR maggy/chaincase,but hey pre60 no problemo :D, :P
just spotted #82,no wonder  Nick was flying,no fugging brakes ;D, :P

No oil in the motor by the looks, unless they mean ''do not oil the primary'' 'cause it'll make the dry clutch slip.
I agree though, great start for pre60 monster. What sort of HP did they make?

Yeah '49 crankcases, '49 frame, the top rear unit bracket has not been cut away to accomodate the 'jampot' units.
Already got the superior SR maggy fitted. plus later full width hubs, and maggie cover from late '50s.
Throw the genny, fit a bantam tank, fit Carey cams, 9:1 Willis piston, "p" off those stupid hairpin valve springs, then just be gentle with that useless early Burman 'box and you will have at least double the original 23 hp!

Memories!!
 cheers pancho.
dont follow me i'm probably off line!
