Without the spring on, you could push them in about twice as fast as pulling them out (from memory ).

All good shocks have more rebound damping than compression to control the speed of the spring rebounding

Yep , "good shocks" do but Christ some stockers are way off the mark from the start.

I guess for a manufacturer like H, Y or S speccing a shock to KYB or whoever for there next flagship would have been a nightmare.

up until the RM's the standard fair wasn't brilliant across the range
