NSW Pre65 MX Series
« on: June 09, 2013, 12:41:09 pm »
Well the reinvigoration of the Pre65 MX class in NSW is hopefully coming up on 20/21 July at Bulahdelah. This is semi-serious race series it is squarely aimed at getting these bikes out of garages and onto the track. Naturally the ‘red mist’ will descend to different degrees on each rider but personally I’m am really looking forward just the sight and sound of these bikes at Canowindra Showground in October.

Fee entry to the meeting for anyone riding a Pre65 bike 8) ;)

We have three solid entries to date Matchless Metisse, Triumph Metisse, and Husky 8). Klub Kevlar are keen and look like having several bikes on the start line hopefully a certain Heaven club member will uphold the German honours with a Maico ;)

Trying to come up with a series name. Have some suggestions but this is not really my fort aye but I have a few, please don’t take the piss just improve on my lame ideas ::).
- 2013 Memories of Roy East Series
- 2013 Roy East MX Series
- 2013 Roy East Pre65 MX Series
- 2013 Return to MX roots
- 2013 Rolling Thunder Series
- 2013 Rolling Pre65 Thunder
- 2013 NSW true Scrambles Series
Yep definitely not my fort-aye :P suggestions welcome

LASTLY. Kenneth Swan (KJ222) and I are providing a limited addition shirt (either polo or ‘T’) to each entrant and/or rider. Therefore I am looking for a great Pre65 photo that can be used on the shirt. I need an action shot or a detail shot of a Pre65 bike or bikes. High resolution photo required but if you can either send me or post low res samples here it would be great. I have a few but just not the right one yet.

Klub Kevlar are booked in to stay at castle Slakewell for this event so i'm looking forward to it. If the bloody doctors can fix me in time I will ride. If Klub Kevlar has a spare pre 65 I will be happy to help fill the grid.

Always a favourite for pre-65. Probably get your hand smacked by the Mortons Archive if you whack it on a t-shirt though, darn ! Good luck with the project, hope all the ditherers and grumblers get off the couch and support this one !

But I agree. Roy would be stoked to know his name is being used to help keep pre 65 alive. This year if there's six or seven bikes it'll be a tribute to Montynut for having the courage to call for a series for the older bikes in a club that's dominated by post '78 bikes. With a number of bikes being built that won't be finished for this years series, it all should be even bigger next year. I've tried to round up as many pre 65's as I could but I know there's more out there.  If you have a pre 65 bike or know of someone with one that's laying dormant, give 'em a shake up.

I agree that you can tribute a race to Roy East, make it a 10 lapper, like we do with the Norm McDonald memorial 10 lapper for all british bikes only, but to call the whole meeting Roy East series, I don't agree.

I love that shot of Derek and Don too. I reckon it's one of the best motocross photos ever.

I can't stand the curiosity.....why Dave? Roy's arguably the greatest motocross racer we produced during the golden era and he was a strong advocate of VMX, to the point that he raced his Metisse while riddled with arthritis and Parkinsons disease purely because he loved racing. If anyone deserves to have a series named after him its Roy.

Totally agree on the photo above it would actually be perfect. I tried to find it on the Mortons Archive but couldn't. It appears you can apply to use the photo for both commercial and non profit uses. Would have no idea of the cost but if GD66 can provide a link that would be great.

A mate of mine did his Apprenticeship at Roy's shop in western Sydney and actually rode the Metisse quite often.

We also have tributes races for Lyall O'Brien Montesa Importer (RIP), and Lloyd Martin (RIP), both men ex- racers in their own right, did a lot for the sport in general for many years,  If the heaven club or for that any club wish to run a series in the name of Roy East then do it, if thats what you want to do, I look at vmx and the era it supports as a whole, sure Roy East had the insight to travel to England to race bikes and did Australia Proud, and so did others archives results, Gary O`brien raced also in spain and won a scottish trials, Ray Fisher rode in England, don't lose sight of their efforts too and others.
You could call it the ( Roy East Grand National VMX Series) or ( Roy East Grand National State Series)and dedicate the races to others within the program.
