MX is OK but at least with a headlight and tail light (and a bit of silencing) to look the part. 1986 is certainly outside the envelope.
WANTED. Canams;all models,complete or parts.SWM stuff too!

I'm THE Thread Killer - when I post a thread dies!

So what about pre-85 MX bikes that were used as enduro mounts back in the day?

I know I rode YZ125's in Enduros in 82 and 83.  Lot of Husky riders rode the CR125 rather than the WR.  That sort of thing..

Hahaha - that answers my question!  I have IT400C's, an IT400D and a KDX400 (none of which had compliance plates back in the day) which I enjoy riding Vinduros on.

But....  I rode 125's in the 80's, and I'm getting a YZ125K back up to my 1983 enduro spec to place under my fat arse too....  To relive the feel of 1983, even if I can never lok like I did in 1983 again....    ;D       :'(

All of what you said plus Disq brakes Long travel Suspension and Water Cooling

The Idea is to keep Vinduro within the original definition of a trail bike or Enduro
bike some bikes made after 84 were the same as pre 84 or carry on models.
I dont think there is a problem with them .

In VMX you have different classes because of there handling and motor improve
       - ments .and rules to suit..differant year models.
Which is good.. but you will still get people try and bend the Rules to suit them..

        The Stig..

Looking through those photos I can see disc brakes on KTM,  XRs,  DR,  TS,   IT,  Rokon,   Maico  ???

Looks like a great event  :) we need you get off our arses over here in NZ and get Vinduros up and running. Enduros were huge here back in the day and I think it would bring a lot of new people into the VMX scene .

Hey Bill

When you have a vinduro over your way and there is enough notice i will be one of the first entries you get
Autos are the way forward , see you round like a robot
Take the short cut, go Cross Country
The shortest distance between two points is Cross Country
CCM's and HL's bark like mad dogs

Upside down forks on that Maico aint pre 85 ;),the CR250 looks like a 85 RF model to me,still not pre 85 though I agree, looks like it was a good ride :)

I see the IT200S snuck in there to with the front disc,or is that a follow on model,or is it an 84 bike with an 86 front end :D :vinduro's were fun and simple once, anyway i need a cup of tea and a lie down.

cheers Dale.
P.S. i remember when these vinduro's were catching on,i wanted to play so i went out a bought an 83 model bike with all 83 model parts on it,f#*king simple really.

Could not agree more with you Dale, I to have always wondered what part of Vinduro Pre 85 people don't understand.

Cheers Mick.

The main principle behind Vinduro is to have fun.. a few people still have these early 80's bikes which they have "improved " over time.

the reality is a latest model xr 200 is eligible as it has drum brakes and is no different to an 85 model.

if a CR 250 86 is the same as an 84-85 other than porting and suspension settings and there is a Parts Book run on so there is no real argument why they shouldnt have a ride. There is no prize money, points and no places...so who really cares.... putting a headlight and tailight on is a $100 buck exercise.

a lot of people have a bike of this age range and dont have the means to get "another old cr*ppy bike" as my wife says why should they be excluded if they want to pay up and have a ride. thats my thoughts, its a great day out and good value for money.

Ill bet the NZers still have their XR 200's......

This thread was started by someone who has gone to a lot of effort to provide a pictorial story of the event for those who couldn't get there or those who may be interested, anyone wishing to discuss vinduro eligibility should feel free to start there own thread and discuss away........I'm pretty sure I read that the Maico seen is actually the land owners own bike, I think we can let that slide for benifeit of the sports prosperity!  8)

Gawd you guys can carry on about your friggin rules.
Chris posted a heap of great photo’s to show what a great event it was and you lot just scrutinize the photo’s for proof of non regulation bikes

The 85 Maico with the modern forks belonged to the owner of the property.
He went to a lot of effort to set up the property for us all, he rode sweep on the red plate ride behind our group to make sure we got back okay and he will probably spend next weekend taking arrows back down.
This was also his first Vinduro.

I didn’t realize we were supposed to tell him to fork off because he might ruin some ones fun. >:(

Hoony, if you want to run your CR in a Vinduro you just have to let us all come down and ride in your back yard :D

Amen! Get a life!  ::)

Not that VERi owes anyone an explanation, especially those who didn't attend but... The '86 CR250 would not be eligible normally, but he was there at the request of the landowner, in a semi official capacity. There was also a couple of modern bikes there doing marshall duties, but only one of them had an 'M' label on his bike as far as I know. Ideally all of these guys would've been wearing fluoro vests but we were all too busy having a good time to worry about it.

Incidentally, the CR guy is now looking for a pre 85 bike so he can start riding vinduros.

Awesome photos Chris, thanks mate!

What's your take on Pre 85 MX bikes with a non working headlight and no tail light, In or Out
