Well, that's it folks, we hit the target. I've emailed the web hosting company and hope to go see them next week to get the ball rolling. Can't do it right away as I am flying off to Qld on Friday AM, back next Wednesday... hope to get a few laps of Action Park dirt track at Maryborough while I am there too!

I will report back once I know what the plan is for the migration/upgrade.

Thanks again!!

A quick update. I am having trouble getting the company concerned to get back to me - at this stage I am not sure they actually want the job. Hopefully it's just a question of priority as this job is probably not a big money maker for them. Anyways, I haven't dropped the ball, just gotta get some action out of them!  :)

Got the quote today and looks OK, so will get it underway next week. The idea is to get a lot more disk space, upgrade the software, change the look so it looks more like part of the ausvmx.ning.com site and have local support. And get the glitches fixed...

OK, that didn't work. After weeks of trying to nail down the guys I wanted to go with I laid it on the line.  They came clean and admitted they didn't really want the job. They could have told me that up front. Anyways, I have another outfit in mind so will contact them and see how it goes.

Watch this space...

I have arranged for another Canberra company to take on the hosting of OzVMX. If they are true to their word, we will get a more responsive forum with the latest software and no more glitches. I hope to begin migration to their arrangements within the next week.

The downside... the forum will need to be locked for a day, possibly several, which will mean you cannot use it during that time.
Risks. Well, it might all go pear shaped, but these guys seem pretty good and should be able to fix any problems. But you never know what they may run into. We also run the risk of losing all member accounts and all posts. This is a remote risk though and is pretty unlikely.

One change will be the URL to the forum will change, so if you have any bookmarks you will need to recreate them.

Hopefully, it will all go smoothly and you'll hardly notice it all, but if there's one thing I've learned about computers, it is that they NEVER go smoothly. So, we shall see. Further updates as they come to hand.
