MC5 Swing arm pivot

Having spoken to Dennis Myer oz555ktm at Broadford come try day about 1976 MC5 250, he said check ya swingarm bolt for siezing. So yesterday i did and after 3 hours its still stuck in there.So layed bike on side managed to get one O-ring out and filled up with ATF/WD40 and left to soak over nite.What im not sure off is ...the swingarm end caps are they threaded onto the axle or do they just a push thru??? Not sure as they have a hex head on it(about 23-26mm do you know the size) so why have hex head if its only a slide thru..thats my thinking?? Dont wanna tap axle if threaded letting it soak for now ,being cautious till have bit more info.What do ya recommend from this point. Cheers

Penetrant/Lubricant — Penetrene | Blackwoods  thats the first phase get it from Blackwoods  we used to drill a small hole through to the Axel fill it from inside Axel is locked inside a sleeve

It is a bolt
If you cant turn it you have problems good new is you can still by the bearings kits. KTM swingarms are unlike anything else but it is a good design but it needs lube or they lock up.

OK the bolt slides thru sleeve(as per standard like most others) only difference is end caps thread onto sleeve. Bolt turns but so does sleeve.Been soaking . Wasn't sure what the caps threaded to now i know.Since bolt just slides thru will make up spanners to hold end caps/sleeve and turn and tap...see what happens. cheers  . Just saw diagram,thanks. Any idea of size of hex head on part 34.

the guts of it is the part 33 the bolt (Thanks for the pick Ozktm ) as got it self rusted in side of 32 ..

and as ya turn the bolt 33 the hole lot truns and move the nuts will turn and may come of 32 but it will not come a part..

you can try to soke it in fox piss or some thing else ...

 But you mite find that you may have to spread the fram and cut the swing arm botl out with a fine cuting wheel 1mm thick ..

start looking for a swing arm bolt now . and you still can but the bearing kit BUT ya cant buy the bolt ...

P.S the vinduro was fantasic 5 star ..

well mate if you want to cut it to pieces, thats you way, but go to to the trouble of buying the  Penetrene fox piss it has a lower s/g than any of the rest and in 1978 when i was freeing them up then we took the time and the trouble cutting was the last resort  jim  from woolgoolga mc

Dont really wanna cut axle unless absolute last resort. Was thinkig of getting cutting wheel,put 2 cuts thru swingarm(will only be about 10-12mm cut)between the 2 bearings then thru sleeve.I can then turn bolt/sleeve while cutting which will  put bigger cut in sleeve only which will then allow more solution to soak thru to bolt. The s/arm cuts then welded. Any thoughts...

YAHOO ITS OUT !!!!! Got the bolt out and s/arm off and best thing is no cutting or damage done.Did drill a hole thru and used ATF/thinner mix(read about this on forum+thats all i had handy, all shops closed long w/end) Just need to get end caps off sleeve then clean up all parts. Thanks to all.

  DONT CUT SWINGARM.

  be cause you will still need the swingarm  bolt and you would of stuff up the swing arm..

Bloody hell...I had an issue with my mc5 swing arm bolt today, much the same!!!
I ended up pressing it out in the hydraulic press to break the rusty hold!
All good...now to dremel those pesky bearings out....

Yeah my bearings..well one is ...rusted in there. So what other ways can ya get then out? Is heat an option(i assume its a steel s/arm so should be ok). To dremel ya slowely grind it out..is that right?? What type of bit is best?? Any other options.

I dremel in a straight line, and then use a small fine chisel to split the bearing. Then it just falls out.
Just clean up the bearing seating surface ready to install new ones.

I should have taken some pics... I hate this job, they are a bastard to get out some times.
