DT100 head compatibility
« on: February 22, 2013, 12:27:46 am »
I've been looking at other options for the cylinder head on my DT100 LSR project.

The Yamaha RX100 head looks a better thing.  As does the KT100J kart motor head.  But I presume that seeing as the RX100 and KT100J are both 50mm bore engines and the DT100 is a 52mm bore engine, they are unlikely to bolt straight on.

Has anyone got any ideas as to the best cylinder head for the DT100?

I think the MX100 and RT100 heads will bolt on but I'm not sure they're any better for combustion chamber design or heat dissipation.

Oooh.  Maybe the RS100 head will do it.  It's a 52mm bore engine.  Might line up.

DT100 and RS100 share a common head gasket so I'd say that's a yes.

If you are chasing power you could match the transfer port in the crankcase to the one in the barrel use the gasket and scribe the shape of it in both and use a die grinder/dremel to take out excess metal.

I suppose it couldn't hurt.

Although I'm more worried about the engine staying together rather than chasing the very last bit of horsepower.

That's why I'm after a head with good heat dissipation and a combustion chamber design which is as anti-knock as possible.

chris i think the head in the pic could be an early (cast iron barrel) ag 100 head. check out a head of the alloy barrel (3v6) ag 100 i think it has larger fins

It claims to be a brand new RS100 head in the ad for it.  Mind you, it's in Thailand so it is quite possibly a non-Yamaha thing.

I'll check out the AG100 head although I was trying to find a head without the exhaust cutaway on the right side.  As far as I remember, the AG heads all had it.
