G`day the uni filter i used on my bultaco was still good after 7 yrs used turps  and i sell fiter dkins 36.00 pack of 3 including  07 3821 6777 robin

What poor Robin was trying to say is 'filter skins'
We use these on my sons race bike going way back and for my money I reckon they are good value.
They are abit like the mesh in stockings - not the fishnet ones that Paul wears but the fine mesh of course - it keeps the course shit out of the foam and prolongs filter service intervals so the filters are not abused as much let alone washed in petrol Don't ever use petrol to wash anything - it wrecks filters and the benzine blended into it is a known carcigen - now that is a worry!
To get the water out of the filter, especially if you are doing it at the last minute pre race etc wait for the missus to go out and then dry the filter in the tumble dryer on a gentle (warm) heat - normally 20 mins and its done
