 Cool pic representing 'back in the day', Stripped (almost) down Ajay, 'jet'  helmet instead of the common place Cromwell, road tyres, footy jersey, probably leather pants, the ones that used to get the crutch hooked on the back of the dual seat over the jumps!,
 plus looks like army surplus 'Don R' boots (probably been re-soled and heeled to many times!).
 
 Brings back the real feel!

just had a closer look & i have the 'gauntlet gloves' that come half way up the arm & i used too use pushbike handle grips which were a stretch to get over the throttle side [can just make them out in pic]. Reminds me of when my mates dad went to an auction of local 'ministry of works' vehicles & came home with a totally original "49 Matchy 500 for him, had candle sticks on the back that still damped & had a single seat plus pillion seat. Damn it i was jealous--just ran perfect & had been used by a meter reader guy or something. [still sulking].

Sorry Brett for the late reply..........I was sponsored on a Yamaha 465 by Betric Racing and we represented our club Central MCC.....We were running a safe 2nd most of the race, before a rear puncture, but still managed 4th.......other team members were Kevin Flood and Scott Dolan.
Here's a shot of my 350 AJS at our practice track at Belfield in 1968........a '46 motor in a '59 frame.......complete with Stadium helmet, Omedies leather pants.....and of course........ex fireman's boots from Fairfield army disposals store !! Goodyear Grasshopper on the rear... 8)

Brett, I was looking through my late Dad's stuff and he had a progam from the 1978 Nepean 6hr. However, it says we rode a 400 Yamaha, but I'm pretty sure Gally and us were riding 465's. I know we were running in a SAFE 2nd, before our puncture, and we finished 4th, but I'm buggered if I can remember who won that year.

Hey Alvin,
Pretty sure Gary O'Brian, Tony Lacey and Kevin Fraser won it. I was riding with team 36 and was right behind Lacey with 15 minutes to go and the bike nipped on one lap and then seized on the next lap (suspect no oil in the last fuel mix). Won it the next year though ;D

I think it might have been a 400 in 1978 Dave, the 465 wasn't released until 1981.

Hi Pete......I'm still kicking myself.....it was my fault we had a puncture.......When we changed our practice tyres on Saturday night for new race tyres, I pinched the tube on the rear and PATCHED IT......WRONG !!...I never rode in the race again......at least you put your DEMONS to rest......As well as having badly blistered hands, I should have worn my nylon inner suit....I wore the skin off my tailbone from the rubbing of my leathers...I was off work for a week..........totally UNCOOL !!! :P
