84 CR 250 Crank
« on: April 21, 2008, 07:25:48 am »
Hi guys, does anyone know the difference between a 84 and 85 CR250 crank? they have different part numbers so must be a difference, I suspect it will be on the ATAC system which runs off the end of the crank?? We had one of our 84 CR fail the crank at Rocksberg on the weekend and it was going to CD-5 >:(

I have a spare 85 engine and before I strip it was wanting to know??

Yeah both ATAC'ers Twisty but are differnet types of ATAC systems (85 is like the 84 125 with the extra valve body in line with the exhaust port, different back mounts 84 has the mounting bracket bolts to motor and the 85 is just straight through swing arm.

Looking in the Clymer book and the pickup off the crank looks the same but the 85 has the same part number as the 86 which is different (go figure). Going to pull the engines down tonight so will let you know the outcome for future reference.

Thanks Hoony will get back to you on that, we have desided to remove the metal plate covers from crank and re-install as is with new rod. Alan at Serco can do this for us post hast and all should be good. Will lose a bit of down low power but it is the bike my brother rides and he has a good 10 KG less than me to cart so will even things out. Hey Hoony will get you to take some shots and PM me if you can as I would like to see the difference in cranks as lots of RG cranks for sale and no RE.

Thanks mate for the help the fleet should still be at seven for the weekend.

Thanks mate, brother is home fitting now and has done a mockup and all is good. Worth telling the boys out there about this one because it looks like and 250 crank 84 to 97 are interchangable ;D

Well Hoony all a goer we installed the engine back in the bike last night. Keep in mind what I said about the cranks and tell others as 330.00 for a crank ex Serco (brank new with 2 x main bearings and a little end bearing) is better than one for a 100 on ebay that would still need a 200 dollar rebuild!!!
