RM465/500 CONROD
« on: September 13, 2012, 07:40:27 pm »
G'day gents, does anyone have a RM465 conrod (new) they no longer need? For that matter can an RM500 rod be used in its place? I gather that a Ktm 360/380 rod will fit the 500 but can it be made to fit the 465???? I am in the market to buy both 465 and 500 rod if anybody wants to sell one, pistons too for that matter.

Also, will a 500 barrel fit onto 465 bottom end and with what mods if any? Help!!

any help appreciated,
Kt

Yep the RM500 was a bored out 465. Stroke is the same.

RM465  bore X stroke   =    86.0 x 80
RM500  "                "   =    88.5 x 80

If KTM rods fit, then your laughen. If not, Ron Anchak might have a handfull of NOS ConRods left for sale. Well he did have a few months back.
Ron is at  -  [email protected]

I am learning now that Suzy DR500 conrods are also finished/extinct. Anyone know of where there is DR500 conrods?

All good info men, thanks heaps.

Great minds think alike! I sent Anchak and sons an email earlier today!  I really want to find a rod! I have a piston coming now. I wonder if the 465 can be safely bored to the standard 500 size without splitting the bore, i doubt it, although you never know! I might ring old mate Ponsey and see if he remembers what he did to Beetle's, if i remember right it was STROKED and bored at one time, i know it was a rocket against mine, but i think in the end it was around 490cc via stroke only. Serco also tell me they still use Maico 490 pistons, they sent me some specs today, once i get  a 465 piston i will compare and tell all!
cheers,
Kt

The rm465 conrod has a different diameter bigend pin to the rm500 but the hole centre measurement is the same you can put a complete rm465 crankshaft into a rm500 bottom end and it will work.

I ended up boring out a 465 barrel to a standard 500 piston size with no drama's.
I think I may have a standard 500 piston if you need one ;)

Boring the 465 out 1mm will take it to 475cc with a 87x80 bore and stroke.
I tried to fit a 500 crank to my 465 a few years back and the primary drive side was different and also had a beefed up primary gear, I would have had to use the 500 clutch basket as well.
Rick Horvat in the US had some 465/500 pistons.

There was some previous discussion about rm500 conrods and some one said to use the KTM 360-380 rod kit,is there any machining to be done to make these conrod kits fit to a rm500 crank any info would be appreciated, cheers :)

KTM rod matches the RM400 not 465/500 , though not anyone has measured the 465 or 500 rods

There was a discussion in another thread earlier.

In case you missed it, Hope this is of any help.

( I thought the RM465Z was the same rod as the 500? And the earlier RM465X being different to the rest, with its internals being a 5 speed and weaker box.
Looks as though Suzuki made more changes to these models than what meets the eye. Sorry if I mislead anyone ).
