 Gents, i need your opinions please, what are engine and gearbox parts availability like for 1985-86 Kx250 like to get these days? I owned and raced one back then and one of my burning desires is to buy and rebuild one (and ride the sucker of course!) How will i go with big ends and mains, gearbox parts etc? there's a clean looking one on Epay at the moment and i am SORELY tempted although the project i have under way at the moment as already consumed a motza and will need to be finished first i guess.
So, are parts semi-readily available? IN a normal vintage bike parts finding sense at least???????????

Cant imagine you would have to much trouble getting parts. I dont have any trouble getting parts for my vintage KXs 74 - 79 (with the exeption of good 3rd gears for 79 250s ) so with a later vintage fringe bike i cant see why you would have any problems  :)

Hi kt,

I am in the process of restoring one right now, my first Kawasaki and my last! I started with one maybe slightly worse than the one on EBay but paid double :'( :'( :'(. It is reasonably original, hasn't done much work, but has been majorly neglected >:(. From what I have learned, rod kits  no problem, piston/rings etc ok, tranny not sure, mine is OK thankfully, swingarm bearings NLA, I have All Balls kit, spherical bearings no problem but $$. Lots of the little brackets/rubbers/boots etc are not so easy to find. Mine is going to be a financial disaster :-[, but I love the look of the '85 and there aren't too many out there by the looks of it. My advise is start with one that is as complete as possible because whatever is missing will probably be NLA :(. I am a learner with the Lime Green, so will be waiting to se what the more experienced Green Brotherhood have to say too :).

Check whether nightmare-racing.com do plastics, 'cause otherwise you'll have a hell of a time getting them.

Dunno about specifics of motors and gearboxes, but would be surprised if any of the consumables were particularly difficult. In my experience, Kawasaki was pretty good with not changing things radically - often stuff interchanges with parts from significantly newer or older (even if the bits aren't identical).

Hadn't seen an '85 KX (of any capacity) in ages, then there's been a few for sale in the last week or so.

I have a frame , Sw arm , linkages, dog bone , seat , tank , air box and some other stuff for one of those KXs not sure what year but it needs a new home  ;)
