Following on from my question regarding shock dismantling (which was well answered by the way!) I now want to shorten my springs approx 1 1/2" (showing my age!) Is there a method? Any help appreciated Jerry

Just remember that anytime you shorten a spring, you increase it's rate!

Shortening a spring will make it stiffer, as an example I did the following cuts and changed the rate accordingly on one of my GSXR1000 roadbikes ...
.95kg fork spring, cut one complete coil changed it to a 1.0kg.
8.1kg shock spring, cut half a coil changed rate to 8.6kg.
Use this website for calculations ...
