Where to start, some of my more memorable hybrids, some good some not.............

In the late 70’s, a TM125 with a TS185 motor

TL 250 Honda converted to 350

Short WB land-Rover fitted with a 283 Chev, then converted to forward control.

Mark II Triumph fitted with a Toyota 5 speed box.

An original Forward control Land-Rover with a turbo charged 202 Holden running on gas, power steering and suspension mods.

Wrote off the above so fitted the running gear to a SWB L-R but added an auto trans and full coil spring suspension, power steering, disc brakes etc.

In Aust

74 F100, fitted 460 and C6, step-side tray and turned it into a convertible

Early TY250, fitted a monoshock rear end and disc brakes

And now, 1990 KTM 250 fitted with XR200 motor, my collection of XT500’s, and now I have enough parts to build another TM185.

Half of my XT’s are modified with different swingarms, forks, triple clamps, tanks etc but compared to some of the previous efforts, they are pretty tame.

I might add that growing up in NZ in the 70’s you could not buy much so you learned to make do. Also serving an apprenticeship as a fitter and turner you quickly learned that everything had to be made from scratch.

Cycle God where in NZ are you from? I’m from Wellington originally but been here 20 years now.

There was a XT powered monoshock YZ in Wgton in the late 70’s, it was built by Damon Gruenwald of Cycleworks, never saw it in the flesh, only piccies.

I saw a hybrid at CD3 that really impressed me.

A PE400 motor in a 92 RM125 chassis. All that smooth progressive power in a light responsive chassis.

To top it off it looked like it came out of a factory, exellent workmanship.

hey this is great keep them coming ;D
just remembered a couple of years ago i bought a yz125l with a cr480 engine it actually ran
used it for parts the guy i got it from said it went like shit in a straight line but would not go around corners ??? he fitted it because it is a lh chain drive, very ugly  :o
also had a 1t175 engine in a yz125L that went quite ok ;D
also i remember peter ploen had a kx400 engine in a kx250a5 that was a weapon
wonder where it is now 8)
and of course marty moates rm250 with 500 engine i think done by motosport suzuki 8)
something about them when you get them right they are unreal
like my 450/500 its a profesional job and is very trick has rg3 triples pulled in 25mm
billet hinson clutch hydralic clutch v force reeds pro circuit system billet rear linkage 08 specs
etc etc the list goes on
but to ride is unreal  have had 500s for over24 years and this thing is great
modern handling and brakes and suspension with killer motor
would back it against any modern 4 stroke
you know the funniest thing i noticed its hard to wheelstand just wants to hook up and go
must be the chassis design cause all my other 500s are hard to keep front end down
third gear starts no problemo vvverryy quick ;D

Remember a Velocette powered Metisse? from earlier days here at Ravenswood. Hope someone has a photo of it as mine were lost in a fire. It was pure artwork........ And the picture of the Can/Am with the triple 750 Kawasaki engine ,what a player that fella was!!!! Me I may still got the parts I believe from my old Honda XL250 that I fitted with a 500/4, it was an umm different experience to ride, won't rebuild as the four straight out upswept pipes would annoy the noise police.... Stuff it I got a few 754 engines that need a new life  ;) ::) :D
I may not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

I'm a little embarassed to mention this one hybrid I had a hand in making, it was TS125 powered bathtub three wheeler and when I say bathtub I mean a forkING BATHTUB. An enamel steel 2 metre long bathtub with the TS frame/front end welded at the shallow end and the motor/tank and axle at the plug hole end with two morris minor seats bolted to the bottom. It was street legal and used for telethon fundraising ( its quite suprising how many people are willing to throw in a few coins to two idiots cruising the streets in a bathtub while wearing WW1 fighter pilot outfits)

I once bought a KL engined KX 125, a guy from a Kawasaki dealership sold it to me & everything on it was like brand new.

I also heard of a couple of guys named Sten & Torsten who apparently did a very professional job of slipping a TT500 motor into a Husky Frame fitted with YZ400 forks & wheels & YZ 125 seat & tank.

However neither were any match for a TS 125 powered bathtub

and my 06 kx450f with a kx500 engine 8)

Did you build the KX yourself? I just finished this year a 99 CR250 with CR500 motor. Found a KX500 powered KX80 on ebay a while ago would have been a wild ride!

Hear is Darren Brown's Yamaico from Brisvegas Maico frame with kitted Yamaha motor looks the goods and goes like a train. Check out the work on the swingarm and all the little custom parts he has made. Will be at CD 5 ;D
