I have just worked out how to upload pics from my iphone to photo bucket and had these in my phone from when I went to the Haigsliegh museum just west of Brisbane. Here are the photos of the Dryvtech bike. One of the photos has the description. I found it a fascinating bike. Enjoy!

That is the definition of a engineers bike.

It certainly never got near a designer... function [?] over form.

But it is amazing what comes out of peoples sheds.

You're right Lozza, that is ENGINEERED.

I was always annoyed that the ADB article had no detail pics - fixed now, thanks 090!

Yammie foot pegs, Suzuki kickstart lever, Bing carb - not seeing many other production parts on it. The top end only looks like Maico?

It has been ridden - it spat the ADB tester off (Steve Riley??).
But I'd say that it's lucky to have travelled tens of kilometres since being built.

It went around Ian's yard with Ian on it , think the late Ken Wooton wobbled around for a lap....just .Which Ian jumped back on it and said "it's easy all you have to do is....."  IIRC sure Ian was the only person that could actualy ride it., 10km would be generous. Though it has travelled a lot. ;D

I saw this bike being ridden around at the Eastern Creek 500 GP,around the time when Wayne Rainey came back to visit after his accident.Wayne was driven around in a convertible and I think along with Darrell Eastlake. This bike I believe is now in England at the Goodwood museum, have to google that bit though.
Ian Drysdale is now helping his mate build up a 9 cylinder rotary engine which is using XR 600 cylinder barrels and stroked to give a bigger capacity than 9x 600 = 5400 cc. I think it's bigger than that. For some reason some of the conrods are 1mm longer than others, however it did go bang during a run, something to do with the metal used in the cylinder liner. Too much for me to think about. Check out The kneeslider site and You tube.
Bultaco Metralla, Matador MK 5, Montadero mk2, El Bandido model 18,plus lots of bits and two Honda XR's 250,350.

I was invited down to Ian’s place along with some other Diamond Valley members in the early 80’s
He gave us the scoop on this bike just before it became public.

I thought at the time that he had quite a few good ideas in this bike and that if he had concentrated on just any one idea he could have got it working really good.

It wasn’t his plan though, he was out to prove things could be done differently and I don’t believe he was ever blind to the fact it wasn’t perfect, he really did think outside the square.
I do remember he based the motor on a Maico but he actually cast his own barrel, years ahead of his time for going it alone.
I thought it was a 400 but the sign in 090’s post says 250

Interesting to note that the most successful 2WD bike would be the Ohlins? Fitted to the Yamaha’s that used a hydraulic motor in the wheel driven by an oil pump which was mounted on the countershaft sprocket, it wasn’t all that removed from Ian’s bike that was built decades before.
Although Ian’s bike looks a little cumbersome it is streets ahead of that Maico with the huge beams and sprockets on the front end.

Ian’s bike was also fitted with the worlds strongest bark busters long before they came into fashion.

I had heard it was sold to a museum in the UK, good to see it now back in Australia

You can check out some of Ian’s Enduro results in the Vinduro section too.

Without trying to sound like an engineering wizard, I can't see it ever being a viable project.
Mechanically it's impossible to provide the same amount of drive to the front wheel as the rear w and unless you can achieve this without compromising the overall ballance of the bike it aint gunna improve things.
Am I being simplistic?
Probably, I'd love to be proved wrong.

wasn't mechanical,basically it was hydraulical slidey, ;)  :P
