I've got a book at home on the ISDT - give descriptions and highlights from every ISDT from 1913 to 1980.
the Mick Walker book, I assume. It's ok, but heck, you'd swear that the only bikes in the entire history of the world were Triumph's. The book could have been SO much more interesting if they had a broader look at the machine developments. The most depressing thing was the brief outline of the outrageous cheating that started to come into the event. Worth getting, but not quite the killer book one would have hoped for.

Funny you should mention the cheating, it was mentioned a number of times in the show on 7mate last week. It seemed to be so commonplace as to be accepted and a source of 'aw-shucks' type of humour

Any pics of Aussie John Hand when he rode the 1980 ISDT on a PE?

Stewart I can well understand the RM remote reservoirs, as an ISDT is pretty brutal. As to the height, it looks about right, given the RM shock is a bit longer and he is perhaps using some non-standard rear fender that seems to have a heck of a lot more gap under the rear loop.

Anybody know John Hand first-hand to get the scoop on how he went, his experiences, private photos?

Geoff Udy ran a PE400 there (1980 France) too. Apparently the first one to be seen in Europe.
Love to see shots and get details of his experiences too.

When Geoff ran the 400 at Elba (pretty sure that's where it was) he told me it was tough. Not suited to the bigger bikes at all. By the last day I heard they had to lift him onto the bike for the start :D :D and Geoff is pretty tough.
You could easerly call him for a chat.

I know John as I have raced against his boys (Mick and Rob) in the local Central Qld Enduro's for the past few years. Next time i see him i will have to pick his brain. I have never seen and photos around from his old racing days but I do know he is still damn fast on his suzuki ag bike on the tracks around the gum valley track.
