Used to talk to Rodney heaps in 98/99 when we were living in Longreach and he and Richard Moore were the Central Queensland young guns. Genuinely nice bloke, wish him all the best.

Sadly Rod is now listed as having withdrawn. Two other Aussies have also fallen by the wayside. There are still 3 in the hunt though.

Yes, Rod was doing well, they decided to throw a new piston into his bike just as a precautionary measure.  Next day had a piston failure of some sort.  Murphy's law.

All juniors in all disciplines should start in trials. It is the basis of two wheeled motorsport and I wish I'd had the chance to ride it when I was younger.

Dean is a current member & he has set up a facebook page "Dakar Dean" & we had 500 stubby holders made to commemerate this.
He went away with about 150 to throw out to the locals along the way.

Dean Nuttall finished a very credible 40th. As for the other two Aussies who finished, David Schwarz came in at 43, and Jamie Chttick was 54. Chris Birch (NZ) finished in 27th place.
