i had thought about excel A60 rims with candy apple red hubs for one of my honda projects, but I'm in two minds i guess.  only problem is that once you've gone to all that expense you sort of have to live with it, regardless of the outcome.
I reckon too much bling looks pox on bikes from an era where there was little or no bling at all..

Luke, I have them on pretty much every bike (and car) I have. Not gloss but satin black is a good look with stainless spokes.

Hard to get black rims for the early stuff due to the spoke offset. I am restoring 2 x CR's 74 and 76 and will most likely go with the silver Sun rims on these.

Below is the first 79 CR I restored with powder coated black rims and re-zinced spokes

I was never going to have a set on an old bike. I ordered a new set of rims and spokes for my 250 H (silver) and black turned up. I was going to send 'em back but a critical thing happened. They knocked a heap of dollars off. ;)
I figured being a racer it won't matter much so I laced them up and they look grouse. :)
I also don't like them on anything earlier than the late seventies onward and I think yellow spokes would just be puke!

i like black rims  that are on a couple of  my maicos

You have done a nice job on this Paul, it's a great looking bike, wish it was in my shed ;) Oh, and I love the black rim on it. They certainly don't suit a lot of the early 70's bikes though. (only my opinion)

i was actually thinking of putting them on a 79 Elsinore, nice bike STW996, what pipe are you running on that, the one i have has a immaculate stock pipe so i sort of didn't want to run it with that on, and have you had any problems with or tips for racing the Elsinore, i only ask as i haven't raced one before, and lets face it, every bike has its little quirks.

As I said earlier, I anodized the DID rims black back in 1992 and nobody else had done it to a vintage bike to my knowledge. At the time most folks including myself thought it was as cool as a cucumber but today it looks wrong, especially seeing the bike's a pre 70 classer. I don't mind black rims on Evo and later bikes but it's up to the owner. There are too many 'cookie cutter' bikes out there so a touch of individuality doesn't hurt that much.

Of course, there was a even stranger time when I actually thought purple rims looked good. Please don't let it happen to me again ;D

I agree with JO and the consensus - put black ones on my 78 CR Garage Queen and loved them - but also don't think they would look right on my pre 75 bikes?

I'm going black on my A5 250 KX.....all the gold is going

Geez, you’ve got a cheek, outing Marc’s yellow fetish and then you plan to destroy the uniqueness of the KX.

Personally I don’t like black rims on any bike, I’m a bit old fashioned and only like gold or silver.
