3 years of hell with Honda twin shock special
« on: October 27, 2011, 12:54:44 am »
any interest in seeing a genuine Honda CR 250 with a CR 480 motor in it? Nightmare from hell -three years in the making and about two weeks to go.
Interesting stats
1. completely refurbished motor, new rod, bearings, piston , seals, etc
2. Brand new CR 250 seat NOS
3. Brand new CR 250 ali tank
4. New DG pipe and silencer
5. new rims, spokes, refurbished hubs
6. Refurbished Fox forks, new ali triple calmps.
7. new bars, levers, cables, plastics,
8. Refurbished air box.
9. Ali swing arm
10. various options re rear shocks, Fox, Ohlins or original stock.

Everything is period appropriate (1980) bar the 480 motor - the bike that Honda should have built and never did

Remaining challenge is to get carb, red block housing and airbox to line up, huge grommet on let hand side of casing causing untold grief.
\Motor about to undergo surgery to remove grommet.

Please remind me never to build a special again - oh shoit still finnishing another special. No more -
Reminder to myself - leave specials to Firko

Old and slow - and happy

Hi Crabman, This bike sounds great. How close are you to showing some photos? Have you ridden it yet?

Stunning!! Mate it looks amazing, well done. I'd love to visit one day and take in the whole collection you have there. Do you accept visitors/admirers? If so, what city/town do you live in? That is a different shape DG pipe to mine, what are the characteristics of that pipe? Also, that shifter is exactly what I need, where did you get it?

 Do you accept visitors/admirers?

You are welcome to swing by- just give me a fair warning as I travel quite extensively

If so, what city/town do you live in?

Cape Town

That is a different shape DG pipe to mine, what are the characteristics of that pipe?

Honestly I dont know- at time of taking the photos I was a two seals short- I have now got them and a new kick start- need to install them and concurrently reconsider a way forward with rear shocks

Also, that shifter is exactly what I need, where did you get it?

To the best of my knowledge it was a standard Honda 450 part - think it came of the horrible 1981 CR 450
