MX 125 ignition
« on: October 10, 2011, 12:39:06 pm »
What is best cdi ignition to put on a MX125B.

Do the later DT125/175mx ones fit without major modifications or is it better to use something from the yz range.

Cheers

Simon

Dont quote me but i think the later yz stator are wider and dont fit flush under the cover and in the case slots. I know the Yzc dont.

PVL make them but you need the right rotor as i reckon the 125 has a differance taper then the bigger yams.  and thne again i reckon there are 2 versions in the 125cc.

All YZ125 up to and including YZ125D will go straight on.
All IT175 with the chain on the left will go straight on.
All DT175 CDIs will go straight on.

I'm inclined to say that the YZ-X/YZ-D is the best to use, but they're getting old and unreliable, and the YZ125D I built using a DT175 external rotor ignition was a cracker...

the coils on the stator hit the cases on the yza125 and dont fit straight up, so i would have thought the mx would have been the same ?

Don't reckon you had YZC parts. Probably eighties model fat coils.

Checked part numbers?

Well it come on a doubious YZa i bought, anyway the stator coils look like a YZ125c/x kinda deal but he coil ens had been cut off right up to the wire to get them into the case, trouble is it wont time either as there is no side movement to be able to correct the timing, this turned out to be a bad deal with all short of shit cobbled together to make it work.  which it never did when i got it.  IF that motors still together ill take a pic of the Stator set up so you can see what i mean.  it was grey plastic coil sets mounted either side on the stator.  Nothing with that bike woudl surprise me, may well have been off a biggs and stratton for tyhe use it was.

Stator plates are all interchangeable.

My DT125A has a YZ125E ignition in it.
YZ-C has different ignition than YZ-X, but the same LHS case.
YZ-E, DT monoshock and early IT175 all have the 1W1 cast cases (YZ-D)....
Etc.

There are differences, but not in fitting stators into cases and complete ignitions into bikes.
