No offence Nathan, You seem a keen young bloke with a good side to your personality judging by your kindness in offering your bikes to other riders and your enthusiasm for our sport. However you do seem to have an antagonistic temperment with a real problem with older members of the vintage community. The people who you seem to aim for are the old school baby boomers of our sport. I remember your posts criticiising our music and culture many months ago and dismissed them as harmful shit stirring. Now I'm not so sure you were stirring. You need to settle back a little, listen to the old blokes, take in their experience and wisdom and sometimes admit that you over stepped the mark like you did with the Ossa Phantom post. You dragged every ounce of life out of that one just justifying your point. It's not the first time either.
Admitting that you don't have all of the answers is something that comes with maturity. The blokes you have had the biggest run ins with are the blokes you could learn the most from. Stop being so evocative and you may start to gain the respect you seem to crave.

Being an old fart old school baby boomer, I don't take offence at Nathans posts.

I think Nathan being so keen and having/knowing a bit gets up some peoples noses, stop being so precious and take it all with a grain of salt, Surely we're all big enough and ugly enough to look after ourselves?

Hi Guys,
I'm not sure if I am old, but I am pretty sure I am regular. A bit of a personal question but…!!!

If I can have my 2 cents worth - I think that we as a group have lost a bit of our sense of humour. When this forum started I think we were all so happy to find it and participate in it - and all that enthusiasm came through in the posts and the personality of the members. It's fantastic to be able to communicate with so many others who share my passion for old motorbikes.

So lets celebrate the things we have in common and forget about some of the small irritations. Have a laugh and enjoy one of the best pastimes that exists in this crazy world.

But if it does all get you down, just remember there is always somebody worse off than you. Sure, they mostly ride Yamaha's and that should be punishment enough.

It's good to be back.

Well im fairly new to this forum, been here just a few months. Im Not old and not young. In my 40s so me place in whatever group you feel suits.

I have no idea what some of the comments in this topic referr to in regards to passed events. I dont really know who are old members and who's not. I can say I enjoy being here. Have learnt plenty.

I have met one forum member in person, spoke to number by phone. Meeting another member next week at my home.

I hope soon to meet many more of you blokes. I'll line with you then you can all remind me what shit rider i am as you lap me on the track.

Following legal advice I hereby retract the statement regarding quilters. The statement was made in a jesting manner and was intended largely to draw a comparison between the rufty tufty type of chap who races dirtbikes and the more genteel and largely civilised type who prefers the fine art of quilting. I meant of course embroiderers who as we know are simply wannabe quilters. My sincerest apologies to those fine folk frequenting this forum who also follow quilting. If you are an embroiderer tho, you have our sympathies.

The new forum started bloody great for me  ;) Yep got the mythical beast Mr "Admin" to insert the sidecar base. Neat! lots friendly of banter , healed some wounds , but must have really ticked off a few others ! They bothered too email me and let fly with tirades about you know "shove your forking sidecars up your forking arse you forking idiot' stuff. (I have actually corrected their sadly pathetic spelling there). Fine..... Tim
The old forum had one the most humbling and truly compassionate threads devoted to my beloved wife Kathy and me during the darkest period of my 50 years, Written by genuine caring people VMXers and their partners mostly that I have never ever met face to face. I wonder if the afore mentioned .. sad people.. could have read and comprehended any of the posts?
I may not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

I can't believe anyone would email you like that tim754. Hey, there's one too many wheels for me also but shiiiiit if you're not into it, dont go in there. WTF! I apologize on their behalf for being a pathetic excuse for a human being. Probably did it anonymously too. BTW, there are more people on line with new forum as opposed to old one.

You know, I find that hard to believe too... why would you do that even if you did disagree? All types... But as has been said, we are big and ugly enough to cope I think. I've had a few too, one bloke who didn't get his membership approved right away, turned out I'd accidentally deleted it thinking he was a spammer (not much info on his profile to tell me he was genuine). He emailed with this long abusive whine and so I took the time to respond and explain things to which he let fly again. These days, I don't waste my time. Give me a hard time and you can go jump. Why would I bother?

And yes, more people online. Now that IS curious, I wonder why? And the post rate is much higher too. Still, gives me a lot more entertainment at 6 AM that's for sure...

I've been watching the members rejoining and so far most of the old crew have re-registered, but perhaps are not as active as they once were. To some extent that is the nature of forums - people come and go as they do in life. I know that the club profile of say HEAVEN is quite different now to in its earliest days when people like B-Rad and Mark Cotterel were the drivers.

I am still chuffed that the forum worked out as it did - up to the point I began it I'd watched several forums on similar sites in Australia wither and die. Quite what OzVMX had that the others didn't I don't really know. Maybe it was just the right time?

Now, I have always taken a pretty light stance on moderation. It is my opinion we are all big kids now and can cop a bit of abuse or crap. If someone was downright abusive or breached good taste then I would step in but you know I have only had to delete a few posts over the years we've been running.

Personally I've received a few abusive emails about the forum, and even the odd threat of legal action for comments made by forum members. But you know, I can cop that. If I couldn't I reckon I should give up bikes and take up quilting (apologies to any active quilters out there, of course!).

I know that sometimes it gets tedious if one member is constantly having a go at you, but you can always choose not to buy into it. And equally a lot of the time stuff is just misunderstood. And of course we are all getting older and crotchetier (is that a word?). But if you really have an issue with someone, drop me a PM. I may not do anything if I think you're being a drama queen, but I'll certainly have a look and a word if need be. I do try to be sympathetic to someone who feels they are being given a hard time, and I have stepped in when a club or organisation is getting an unfair serve.

What can I say? The forum has turned out to be THE online meeting place for Aussie VMX, just as I had hoped. I think we are all the richer for it, insults, criticisms and Turkish hackers notwithstanding.

Keep it up guys.

This is why this is such a great site :)Thanks for running a great site Graeme and an open minded forum Bill :)

Hear hear
While im not quite a baby boomer im at least half a generation older than Nathan. Having met Nathan at the Nats i found him to be a top bloke with a Wicked sense of humour ;D
Nathan rode 3 classes at the Nats Pre 70, pre 75 & pre 78 , the two older classes on converted trail bikes. He was not at the pointy end of the field but he was smiling all weekend.
I am hoping nathan and his wife will be my guest over here at the end of the month to ride a couple of events.
When all said and done if you dont like what sombody post ignore it and move on.
Personally im just happy that a younger bloke is enthusiastic enough to help keep the older classes alive  :)

Graeme,
Let me tell you that there is nothing genteel in the world of needle point or any craft/hobby fabric fusing activity. Many a Sunday arternoon has been spent needle banging with adversaries chasing the coverted "Mr Manchester" trophy! We do however conduct ourselves in a more civilized manner to our elders. Any "Yobs" for want of a better word, when found to be over-stepping the mark, are taken out at a meeting and have a No 7 Sainsbury bone needle inserted into their scrotum. How's that for a bit of "Ruffty Tuffty" Mr Graeme? Hmmmm?!!
Your apology has been noted however remember,
           You are being watched

Yours
