Coolant for high magnesium content alloy

Hi guys, has anyone who has an early to mid 80's water cool bike played around much with which coolants minimise corrosion of cases/covers with a high magnesium content? I'm just finishing off fixing up a CR250RG and want to know what's a good coolant to use to slow down the dreaded Honda cancer. I've read about Motul's motocool organic coolant but has anyone got any other recommendations or has even gone so far as cooking up their own recipe of chemicals/additives?

I drain the coolant out of mine after I ride it seems to be holding the corrosion at bay.

thanx odd1, that's what a lot of people seem to do, i was trying to avoid having to do that if i could and track down a coolant that works with magnesium. there's a little bit out there in engineering papers about it as manufacturers are starting to look at magnesium again but nothing about currently available off the shelf products, only concoctions knocked up from different chemicals.

Most coolants you buy are crap, search around the net etc for info about which brands are actually decent - maybe seek out info from aero engine forums, you don't fork around with products at 10,000 feet.

what would happen if you mixed it with oil or cooted the inside of the covers with some kind of primer/ sealer like a casswells or somthing.

yeah - myu thoughts were similar to Freakys - what if you painted/powdercoated the inside of the water pump (lets say) - water nor coolant should affect that?

yep, i've heard of people using a coating of some sort either a paint or an epoxy but there's still those bits where surfaces meet, maybe the paint or coating should go over the surface where the gasket sits too. i've got a clutch cover/pump housing that's bogged up with epoxy to fill the holes right now but i do have a brand spanking new clutch cover ready to go for when this one finally corrodes to nothing so maybe paint is a good option for the new one.

Been using it for the last 6 months on the CR250RE and CR125RE so far so good, was sick to death of re devconing the 250 at the end of each season so switched to this stuff.

The 125 has got a really good housing on it and before it get's rooted I switched to the waterless coolant.

Not coolants will work with tap water you must use distilled water as it has no crap in it.
Had an 82 honda 125  and used distilled water and penrite coolant with no probs.
got another 82 125 and the cover was corroded put on another cover with distilled water and
coolant a year ago and it is all sweet.
