I dont have a flywheel puller so I cant try the rotation of the stator just now.  Been trying to find one but with no sucess yet.  I thought when I had it repaired and I had spark that it was safe to put the flywheel back on torque it up!

BTW does anyone know the thread needed for the Motoplat mini 6 puller?  I reckon its a 27mm x 1.5mm thread but cant find a puller anywhere on eBay or elsewhere that matches that.  Everyone sells 27mm x 1 mm.  Can someone confirm.

Cheers

Fernando sells them and will probably have them in stock, try Husky Parts or check out the web site.

I bought a Motoplat puller and it is inscribed 27 x 1.25, if you get snookered get in touch and you can borrow it. Really want to see this thing going, mate ! ;)

Yeah me to GD66!  Thanks for the offer of a loan.
I've scored a loan from Baronvmx of a puller while I wait for Fernando to supply me one for the toolbox.  I think it might come in handy in the future!

Steve from Betta Bikes says he needs the stator back as it the trigger coil must be wound in reverse and needs to be redone.   Apparently this can happen sometimes.

One more week  :-\  Cheers

Steve at Betta Bikes had to redo his Motoplat rewind job.  Had wound the trigger coil in reverse apparently.  Anyway he's fixed it and it is now firing at the right time - 17 degrees BTDC. Roll on the Easter weekend and I'll see if it'll run - cant wait.
BTW Motoplat mini 6 flywheels use a 26mm x 1.5mm puller.

Got it going at last....thank christ for that. ;D ;D ;D  Shit its fast....probably try and spit me off on the track!

Ran really well up and down my street (even better when I remembered to turn the choke off) but out of consideration for the neighbours turned it off after 5 minutes - its slightly louder than a lawn mower!

Went to restart it after putting my riding gear on and no go.  No spark at all!  Couldnt believe it.  ??? ??? ??? Tested it with a multimeter and it seems the charge coils are faulty - trigger coil is fine.  After cursing and vowing to splash out and buy a f'ing PVL I resigned myself to shagging around pulling the ignition off again I found the wires out the back of the Motoplat are dodgy and tidied them up (cut the stray strands off etc and put some liquid insulation goo in there) and its got spark back.  :-\ :-\ For how long who knows.  Currently waiting for the liquid insulating goo to dry and I'll refit and try to fire it up again. ???

Would people recommend PVL or MzB ignitions....MzB has lights and a bigger flywheel.  I want to ride both VMX and trails.  Thats assuming the Motoplat gets the heave.  What are PVL's like for trail riding?

You're a patient man Pezberg.
Golfers are known to hurl the sticks into the lake or over a cliff with less aggravation!

Yeah Wombat ..... as they say Patience is a virgin.  Except I have been f'd around real good here! :'(  Makes an electric start modern seem real attractive.

I like your boots - Alpine Stars?  I've restored my 1980 Sidis - red with the yellow rubber shin pads. One day I'll get to wear em! ::)

Yep, I bought them for $50 at a 'Cash Converters' about four years ago; pale grey and scuffed up - never having had a visit from the nugget fairy (see the left one).
I wasn't even into bikes at the time, but I recognised a classic and stuck 'em in the shed as ya do.
Unfortunately I can't get them to do up over the modern CTi knee guards, damn it!

On the Sidis - for racing back in the dreamtime I had the blue jobbies with the yellow rubber shin pads. Damn fine boots and I sold them to pay the rent many years ago :'(.

Ah CTi knee braces...nice.  Back in the day we never heard of knee braces and armour was for pro's only.  In fact used to race in jeans and a woolen bush shirt...but it was NZ!  The only scars I have are all from enduro racing on my old PE's so I guess it wasnt such a good idea the lack of protection back then.  Now as I approach my dotage I have knee guards, real riding pants and shirt and am currently sizing up full body armour.  The body sure dont bounce back like it used to...in facts sags a bit here and there!

That's good Pez, but IS IT GOING ? Did the tidy-up work, and are you sitting back with a silly grin, in the knowledge that within your garage lurks a goer ? ;)

Yes indeed GD66 the beast runs at last!  Only had a few quick runs around the block to check it out and heat soak. VHT expansion paint fumes are filling the garage after each run!

Motoplat mini 6 ignition was the problem all along and now its fixed. ;D  FWIW the rotor magnet that triggers the pulsar coil is quite long and covers almost 90 degrees of arc.  With the pulsar coil rewound the wrong way the ignition triggered when the long magnets trailing edge went past the pick up rather than the leading edge as it is supposed to. Hence spark fired 90 degrees too late on the exhaust stroke and it wouldnt run - hindsight is brilliant..but at the time it was definitely WTF?

Next stop QVMX club days! :D

ive fitted MZB ignitons to Jawas before they are good quality and well built. it was good when the german curency was sill around as they worked out extremly cheap when we imported them but now its gone to euros and costs a lot more
