I wonder ?
« on: April 27, 2011, 04:48:06 pm »
Got a SEM flywheel that,s no good to anyone soooo.

AND I,ve been playing with these ones.

You can take the stainless sleeve out of these so could I fit a sleeve to my SEM and fix it ?

Grinding the sucker out. Dirty job this one.

A unexplodeable SEM flywheel.
Not finished yet, got to glue the sleeve in and tidy it up but you get the idea. :)

Glued that stainless ring in , ground it true and fitted her up.
Runs fine , electrical power down a little because of the bigger air gap but I,ve fitted a 45/40w headlight bulb and all is good.
I,ve got a couple more of these to do now that I know it works. :)

Mate of mine threw two of these flywheels and stators in the bin. :o
He,s spewing now and so am ;D I

Great work Mike. I assume the sleeve is rolled from sheet strip? What thickness and is it non magnetic i.e 304, 316 etc?

Hi PEZ.
It,s .5mm stainless sheet found in a mates scrap pile and rolled on a little machine I knocked up years ago.
Non magnetic.
It,s very hard [ impossible] to find thinner stuff so I wacked it back in the lathe when it was all glued up and ground a little bit more out, ended up about .3mm.
That chinese stainless in the small flywheel pictured is slightly magnetic  :o and is incredibly thin.
