No guarantees but, heat gun, long broom handle stuck down the guts, downward pressure and a rattle gun ;).

Or, with the forks assembled, downward pressure against spring and a rattle gun.

I had to make a tool to get the 125x forks apart, the broom handle trick didn't work on them either. I'll take a pic later and post it up. All you need is 12mm rod and a welder

Some bastards has used loctite ::). But then it could be just old age and gunk ::).

Using the correct holding tool is the go. I've made several in the past but can't remember the details. Looks like Mainline is your 'go to' man 8). Go luck :).

What are the forks off?  The tools are different sizes depending on how big the forks are.  If they are 43mm I will take a picture of the one I made and measure it for you.  Piece of cake  ;)
Looking for YZ250C parts NOS if possible

The early ones don't have an inside hex. Some have a pair of outside flats.
The last ones I did had 10mm between flats. I stuck some 1mm shim stock inside a 12mm 6 point hex socket.

Finally, I'm a 'go-to' man, all these years I've waited........

Rack off Barsby, I'm the 'go to' man around here ;D

Mark (mboddy) is onto it, the couple of earlier yamaha forks I've pulled apart don't have an internal hex like the later YZ's RM's etc

I made this Doobrey(tm) up, and after a little bit of touching up with a grinder it worked a treat. Sorry about the quality, the camera battery was flat, so I had to use the mobile.

Basically, it's a length of 12mm rod (i had an offcut of threaded so that's what I used) with a couple of tabs welded on the sides. I cleaned up the outside edges with a grinder to stop them scraping the inside of the fork leg. I also had to square off the inside edges of the tabs till they locked onto the doodad at the bottom of the fork leg.

Maybe if Mark is thinking they were 10mm apart you should start with 10mm rod go from there. The X forks needed 12mm + between the tabs before it'd lock on. I suppose it depends on the vintage of fork we're talking about.

Hope this helps, if not, Barsby is your new 'go-to' man ;D

Unfortunately no. I am still collecting parts to build my YZ250D.
Hopefully VMX Plastics will finish their tanks and side covers soon.
